Protest/lobbyists and Distilled Spirits

Outside the convention, protests continued on the RNC’s final day. Hundreds of people turned out for a rally organized by Youth Against War and Racism.

Protester: “The mission statement here today, I guess, is bring the troops home, end the unjust, illegal war for profit in Iraq. I guess, as an alternate also, do not elect John McCain this fall, because that would be a continuation of the same awful battle plan that we’ve experienced since 2003.”

Later in the day, up to 400 people were arrested in a protest near the State Capitol, about a mile from the convention site. Police used teargas and flash grenades against the crowd. Overall, more than 800 people have been arrested at anti-RNC protests in the Twin Cities this week. Nineteen media workers have also been jailed.
I really wasn't going to post any more polities crap because truth be told I think they are all rotten to the core but I couldn't resist any longer..
During the convention if I wanted to know how many people were arrested during the freedom marches I had to tune in to Amy Goodman on democracy now. Amy is the far left in her view point but she was the only reported reporting any thing beside how great the Palin/McCain ticket is.
Amy went to the second floor of the RNC convention where all the Lobbyist had set up rooms for all the conventions delegates and tried to get in the rooms needless to say they all knew who she was and refused to let her in on their party but she did meet one fellow in the hall way who was willing to be interviewed namely Tucker Carlson reporter for a major cable news net work.
He was coming from the lobbyists rooms and said he didn't drink but by his red complexion his claim fell on deft ears.
AMY GOODMAN: The Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities, like last week’s Democratic convention in Denver, is largely funded by large corporations. So, too, are the scores of convention-related parties, receptions and concerts. The watchdog group Public Citizen estimates some 175 companies gave a total of a least $115 million to help pay for the conventions this time around.

Inside the Xcel Center here in St. Paul, celebrities, lobbyists, party bigwigs mingle in lavish suites that overlook the convention floor. Private caterers pour wine and beer as speakers take to the podium downstairs.
JOHN HAMILTON: I’m standing outside the Solera Bar in downtown Minneapolis. This is a party sponsored by Lockheed Martin. Why is Lockheed Martin sponsoring a Republican party tonight?

TUCKER CARLSON: I haven’t the faintest idea. I thought this was sponsored by the Distilled Spirits Council. Truly, the liquor lobby. That’s why I came. I don’t even drink, but I support alcohol.

TUCKER CARLSON: I think we’re seeing a lot of middle-aged drunk people, actually. I’m not sure that that qualifies as the military-industrial complex. But yeah, I mean, if this is what the military-industrial complex looks like, I support it.
