rain

I have 5 setting hens and since I was gone 2 days and unable to get into the house for a third day the setting eggs was sort of a mystery to me . I went in this morning and gathered all the eggs and threw them away. I will start saving eggs today and set all the hens on the same day.

Maybe the weather will not be so wet in a few days and the house wont be so wet. It rained again last night . I got the chicken house covered with wood chips maybe it will be dryer in the house now.

Tomorrow is April fools day and the day on which grandpa Powell was born.

wood chips

When we had our ice storm tree limbs were broke all over the county and they have been going around with a chipper and making chips from the limbs. Tony knew the fellow who was hauling the chips and he got him to bring me a load for my chicken pens. This will keep the mud down in the pens.
I am very pleased with the chips and the hens are also.

drive sister crazy

My sister is playing a game called drive the old woman crazy. She has a plant from my former home which I have not live on for 15 years and now she is trying to get me to tell her what it is.

Most of the plants I had in that flower bed I had gained by digging them up from old house places. I thought it might be butter and eggs but she says it isn't. It may be some wild form of the plant or could be a form of fennel, maybe it is bitter weed!

The bush of sunshine or Obama's stimulus package!

The forsythia bush!

Obama's stimulus package has landed. Kelly and tony came down to see me while I was in the hospital, here I was so sick and my two son's were beside them selves, they had received their checks and Kelly's federal withholding was 100 dollars less than usual and Tony's was 75 dollars less.
Kelly said the Tyson workers were gathering in the parking lot wondering what was going on with their federal deductions, My sons ask me what is going on?, I had told them that their federal with holding would be about 13 dollars less a week.

I was so sick I couldn't think so I said don't know but I have had time to think now and what I think was happening the extra money was for the last 3 months when the company held out the federal tax in the usual way.

Next week my sons will be disappointed if I am right because the checks should be just 13 dollars more.

At least I didn't raise any fools they took their money and left town, asking no questions of Tyson Foods.

Many people who work at Tyson never know anything about the government and so don't you know they were shocked when they got their extra money in their check? most were sure it was a mistake but they didn't feel obligated to go to the office and try to fix the problem, the general feeling was TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN!

My children are better informed than most because I keep them up to date on current happening in our world.

The death of a neighbor

winter weather suppose to bring snow tonight, I think it will be a little less than they are calling for but we will see.

Helen commented that when I was gone the stories about grandpa Powell would be over so I wanted to tell all his descents that would care to listen some things.

Grandpa was a school teacher and farmer, he taught school during the depression with a promise for pay when the depression was past. he never received a nickle on that promise.

Melton Powell lived most of his adult life in the sunny Lane community. When word was heard by grandpa's neighbors, Ozark farmers, that hot evening in July, 1954 those life long neighbors gathered in the my grandfathers yard and within a hour the yard was full of cars and overall clad work worn men standing and waiting , the bed room window was open and one by one they came to peer in at the still form on the bed. Not one had a word to say but they were there in case there was something that they could do. Grandpa was full of morphine by that time and I don't think he ever knew the neighbors were standing by for his passing but I will never forget the way they showed their respect for grandpa.

Home on the range

I am home with out any ill effects from my two day stay in the hospital.
They were glad to see me go out the door! especially my niece Erin Marie. I was on second floor and Erin is in third floor. I told her next time I was going to ask for her floor. I think she is looking for a new place to work at this time.
I feel like I escaped from the jaws of death.

Grandpa and the devil's soup

my grandfather Powell was a very serious man about the Bible and what he believed. He had a neighbor who came to talk to grandpa often trying to convert my grandfather to his church.Mr. Smith was a seven day Adventist and he believed certain dietary laws that grandpa Powell didn't subscribe to. Mr. Smith would not eat pork. he called it the devil's food.
One day Mr. Smith arrived at the noon meal and grandpa invited him to draw up a chair and eat with them.
My grandmother always cooked pinto beans with plenty of bacon fat.
Mr. Smith ate the beans with great gusto and raved that the bean soup was the best he had every tasted. Grandpa passed the bean bowl and urged him to eat all he wanted which he did.
Finally Mr. Smith pushed back his chair and said he couldn't eat any more. Grandpa told him he had just ate the devil's soup because the beans were cooked in bacon fat.
grandpa would not lead you into sin but if you walked in on your own he would let you eat you fill.

guineas

the guineas have been here two weeks and they are doing OK. The wind is blowing and the temperature is 58 degrees this morning. April is around the corner and I will be glad to see this month.

it begins

I have set my first hen, she is one of my Rhode island bantams. she should hatch April 10. I called Bonnam's hardware and ordered leaf lettuce. Sammy is going to pick it up and I am going to sew it in the garden. Lettuce is something that grows well and will go with my onions.

rare dog

Are you allergic to dogs but yearn for dog as a pet? I have this rare dog that has years of breeding in his back ground and for a mere one hundred thousand dollars I will hand deliver this dog to you.
I grantee if you are not allergist to dogs you wont be allergist to this dog. If I sell this dog I am going to start breeding cats that you might want.

sick as a dog

Pugsy is sick. day before yesterday he was throwing up and was breathing hard. The truth is pugsy is a problem dog. I told my son and daughter if he didn't improve or if he was to get worse I would put him down. This was meet with cries of denial and shouts of no!

I can not see letting a animal suffer. I don't understand people who believe that a animal is human. On the brighter side he was much improved yesterday.

I have read that pug dogs have many health problem due to the years of breeding that went into the search for the short nose perfect looking pug.

I know some will not like this but if I have a chicken that is sick and I don't thing it will improve I kill it and if I have a sick dog or cat and death is the only answer I do kill the animal. some time I wish someone would do the same for me.

Scam

A friend of mine created a blog to talk about his experiences getting ripped off by a company called Lifestyle Pets, who claim to sell a hypoallergic cat called Allerca, but really just seem to charge thousands of dollars for the honor of being put on an endless waiting list.
Thank you!

This is mike's post today and he wants to spread the word he was riped off by these people. I know Mike is very smart and I don't understand how he fell for this but he did. The way I see it if you are allergic to a cat and it is a cat you will be allergic.

oh my.

FAYETTEVILLE — Berryville Mayor Tim McKinney was arrested Wednesday night in Washington County for second-offense drunk driving and possessing marijuana, authorities said.McKinney said early Friday morning that he would issue a press release later in the day.
Bret Hagan, patrol sergeant for the Washington County sheriff’s office, said Friday morning that the charges on which McKinney was arrested were listed on the jail book as misdemeanors, but his office had since learned that McKinney had a previous marijuana conviction.A second marijuana offense is a felony, Sgt. Hagan said. He said officers would ask the prosecutor’s office for a felony arrest warrant and probably give McKinney an opportunity to turn himself in and receive a date to appear in circuit court.

Let me say first that I have never fallen into the marijuana smoking trap. I have had experience with tobacco and licker drinking all legal substances. I think this has more to do with my age group than any special goodness on my part.

I have thought for a long time that marijuana smoking should be legalized or it should never have been made illegal in the first place. I also think the marijuana push in our country was more about the police department wanting to find away to make money with fines and pushing the little person around but now the mayor of Berryville has been arrested twice for possession of the weed and if he was a lowly Tyson worker he would be on his way to prison.

I know people in the 40 to 50 age bracket that has had their lives ruined by the weed law. These people are good people but they have treated like the scum of the earth and it is long pass the time that it is stopped.

yeah

yeah! Norton emailed me and told me how to install the 2009 norton disk! I save the email for sister. I am not going to try it, let the expert do it.

onions

I have onions everywhere in the yard according to SAM. I have winter onions growing great guns and the onions that I didn't pull last fall are about 4 inches tall. If I don't have onions I can't cook.
I am going to the library today.
I am about ready to give up the computer, my Norton antivirus will be out soon and I bought a Norton 2009 antivirus disk and can't get it to load! If I didn't have a computer I wouldn't have a worry in the world. Fleta will have to come and help me get this Norton installed. She had to last year also. If I didn't have a computer Fleta wouldn't have as many worries.

photos

The library of congress has posted photos on the flickr site and if you would like to view some photos from the 30 and 40 click on the title of this post and take a look. I like the girls ,at the Vermont state fair 1941, in the pink dresses. They look like the dresses Grandma Powell made for me. Daddy always loved a good team so I like the photo of the mules and wagon.

joy well done.

We have had a problem with our 2ND. toilet for a long time. It was one of those water saving toilets and all they do is run and use more water. I bought a new toilet at Bonnoms' hardware and Sammy put it in this morning.
I cooked him sausage and biscuit for doing my job and now he has gone home.

Story of the land

fleta is calling this land the Myers land but I don't think this land every belonged to the Myers family. if you drive up my grandfather old farm lane the land there on the right hand side is the land Fleta is talking about.

This land belonged to my grandmother, Gertie maples Powell's uncle, Jessie maples. Maples owned 240 acres joining grandpa and grandma Powell's land. Jessie maples had one daughter Mary Jane maples, she married Lon Dillon and they had 3 children that I know about, Grace Dillion Vowell, Jessie Dillon and Joy Dillion. Mary Jane inherited this land at her Mother death. She lived to a ripe old age and on her death the Dillion heires inherited this 240 acres . I think they sold the land to Virgil and Lois Morris and the land was in their position until the last year or so. Now I could be wrong but the only way to prove me wrong is for fleta to do a search and see if anyone else owned the land named Myers.
The Myers owned land in the sunny lane area but It was not this 240 acres. The Jessie maples house burned in the '50. I remember Jack Roberson helped fight the fire. Jessie's' widow was still alive at this time as was Mary Jane Maples Dillion. I don't know if they lived on the land after this but I do know Grandpa Powell was dead when the Maples house burned and he died in 1954. Perhaps there was two houses and the old women lived in the other house after the fire.
the land was across the fence from the Hugh Morris place as well as Jack Roberson's land.
I crossed this land when I started school at Sunny Lane and when I came off the maples place I was in sight of the school house.

wild life

In the evening time I go out on my porch and listen for the coyotes singing. They run along the creek in the hollow below my house. They are wild and free and speak to me of times past when nature was more than highway traffic and sounds of automobile passing in the night with their music boxes booming.

There are cliffs along the creek and I suppose that is where they den and raise their young.
The coyote hunt the deer and rabbits for food and some people take offence of their living in our country but not me. Often our ears are full of barking dogs, drunken curses and the blare of cable TV. Give me the coyotes song any time.

Guineas

more guinea photos. usually when I take a photo they have their heads down and all I photograph is the back and rump but I have learned if I clear my throat all heads go up at the same time.

I have determined by their call I have at least 3 hens. this would be enough to try raising keets this summer. Kelly was going over to the sale to see if they caught the other 4 that was lose in the sale barn. If they did I will have 4 more.

It is 45 degrees at 8 O'clock sort of damp but not disagreeable.

fat

I feed pugsy every day, I just try to limit his food because he is very fat. I think the people who owned him before only feed him people food because he will eat anything that is from the table. I also think that is how he got lost. If a car is in the yard when they leave he tries to get in. I suppose the people who owned him always took him with them when they went in the car.

Pugsy has breathing problems and I think he needs to stay slim so I try to limit his food else he would eat all the time. Pugsy is greedy. I have to have water near him when he eats because he will take a bite or so then take a drink of water.

Pugsy has problems and that maybe why he was homeless, his owner made have dumped him. I hate to think people would do that. I would rather put a dog down than to dump him and leave him lost.
He is a real people dog when I am out side he runs and plays around me and when I go inside he stays on the porch waiting for me to come back out.

Pugsy and the neighbors

pugsy before the diet!

Pugsy on diet.

Pugsy has trouble breathing and I have been trying to restrict his food intake because the few warm days he had problems. Note the extra wrinkles in his hide?

A couple of days ago I was setting in my yard chair watching my guineas and pugsy was running around enjoying life. He goes into my neighbors yard and thinks of it as his Domini.

This neighbor has a deaf mute son, and he bring girls friends home to visit his mother, He has a good looking girl friend at this time who is deaf also, tho' she can speak fairly well they have to talk to her with their hands.

I am watching my birds and I hear the girl shot, There is a dog in my truck eating my food "Ben Left my Fucking door open!" I think Huh Oh! The lady of the house is coming to see what is going on and I call, What kind of dog is it? the lady signs the girl and the girl shouts, "It that Fucking poor dog!" it seem the girl had left a sandwich in her truck and the boy friend didn't shut the truck door! Pugsy had climbed in and helped him self to the her food.

Pugsy is on a diet but if you are around our house you better keep you car door closed to protect anything eatable.

holy cow

I have been saying for a least 2 years that Dick Cheney was the booger man and I thought that when Bush/Cheney went into retirement that we would be hearing some amazing facts or perhaps as my sister said it just someone writing a book but if this man has any proof of what he said last night there is going to be a day of reckoning for Dick Cheney. Here is the story...

Award-winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh dropped another bombshell this week when he revealed that former Vice-President Dick Cheney had his own SS-style political assassination unit that reported directly to him.
Hersh told a University of Minnesota audience on Tuesday, “After 9/11, I haven’t written about this yet, but the Central Intelligence Agency was very deeply involved in domestic activities against people they thought to be enemies of the state. Without any legal authority for it. They haven’t been called on it yet.”
Hersh then went on to describe how the Joint Special Operations Command was an executive assassination unit that carried out political`assassinations abroad. . “It is a special wing of our special operations community that is set up independently,” he explained. “They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. … Congress has no oversight of it

bird

A nice bird to see on a cold winter day. the nurse was here and brought me another week of supplies. The home health program which my insurance pays is a nice thing. The supplies would be very expansive for me and I can't buy the quality which they have.
Rain and snow is falling here but I don't believe it will amount to much.

oh, gross

It is 32 degrees here at 6:45 and winter mix is in the forecast for Thursday. I hope they are wrong.

This is a photo of our winter mix that turned into a major ice storm. I have had enough winter already.

Teacher sister is blogging about a boy trying to get out of class by faking a nose bleed and this reminded me when we were in junior high, the building had Hugh windows that reached almost to the ground. When we were in study hall over seen by our teacher Mr. Vowell some of the students would get his attention and some of us would crawl out the open windows. Mr. Vowell never noticed the absent students and some days when the out side world called esp. strong Mr. Vowell ended the hour with no students under his care.

One day when we were in our junior year in high school the "in crowd" started the action for everybody to come to school and then fail to go in to class and spend the day on the go. they said if all stayed out of school nothing would be done about the awol .These students who planed this little field trip had cars and they were going to take their friends for a day outing . I was not in this group and this meant I would be in town all day with nothing to do and no where to go.

Being esp. mean in those days I wrote an unsigned note to fill him in and placed the note on our principle's desk while he was out of the office. When he returned he came to our room and told our class he knew the plan and anyone taking part in this awol would be relieved of coming to school for the rest of the year. The students were amazed that he had the big secret but they showed up for classes the next day because the students planning the outing were planning on going to college after graduating and you can't go to college if you didn't finish your Jr. year.

I took great glee in watching the "in crowd" talking about how he found them out. The "in crowd" were students who lived in town and had more money an all the finer things in life but I had the mighty pen and paper.

The guineas

The guineas are settling in and I have already had two days of pleasure watching them. The call of pot rack, or go back is only made by the hens and I heard 2 make the sound yesterday while I was watching them. The rooster only says chi, chi, chi and the hens make that sound too.

When I was a girl we had guineas, they were wild and roosted in the sycamore trees that grew above the old pond. I don't know how long they were around but I remember them as a permit place in my child hood. Eventual they died out and we no longer heard their call around the place.

One time mama cooked one, this only happened once because we couldn't get our hand on them, daddy must have shot that one else how we caught it I can't imagine. The meat is all dark and the bird was tuff as old shoe leather. mama boiled it for hours and we still needed strong teeth to chew the meat.
I plan on trying to raise some Keets this spring and if I do I may try eating guinea again just to say I did it.

chicken mania

Chicken mania is going around, Betty needs to have Larry take her bantams to the Huntiville sale. My 18, Judy kept two of the hens, the 18 brought 116 dollars.

Kelly said he gave 6 dollars each for the gunieas so that is 36 dollars. I made a profit! Some one gave 36 dollars for 2 hens and the rooster. Think how many roosters I killed last fall!

I may try hatching some guineas under a hen. Guinea hens don't make good mothers because they drag them out in the wet and cold. The man who sold kelly the guineas said I had 4 hens and 2 roosters, maybe, time will tell. They should start laying by May. I will be crawling in the pen to get eggs for setting. Maybe clayton might want to set some eggs in his incubator .

Sunday, March 08, 2009

see one and you have seen them all

I have 6 guineas, they let 4 get loose at the sale and they couldn't catch them. I have at least 2 males, they call cal che, che, che. and I have heard one female call, sounds like, go back, go back. The other 3 I am not sure of but if I watch them for awhile I should be able to tell what they are.

Throw in the towel

In boxing they have a expression, throw in the towel! I was about ready last night. I turned on my computer at 8 O'clock last evening. It wouldn't come on! Then I got a message that windows could fix the problem, Ok so I clicked on the deal and after a long time I got the message the problem was fixed. I was good to go but wait now my virus protection was turned off!

I worked for 3 hours with Norton to fix the problem and then I was told to down load updates. OK! then It went on and on at 1 o'clock I went to bed and left everything running now when I got up at 6:45 I was told everything was fixed. Norton was telling me my Norton was out of date and I have 37 days left on it. no telling what will happen today.

Kelly went to the sale at Huntsville last night and called me from there. He had bought me something I have been wanting for a while. He bought me 10 guineas fowl. I have to get out and get set up for them. He will bring them today. I will have to keep them penned for awhile or they will take off to the wild blue yonder.

first

The first flower of the year. It doesn't look like much but holds the hope for the spring growing season.

Sammy moved my chicken brooder yesterday. I told him I liked new ground for baby chickens and he said you don't need any more chickens! I said if I raise more than I need you can sell them, brooder moved!

I cut the tops off my onions and the old dead tall grass, maybe that will give the onions a running start.

Kelly called and woke me and ask Clayton's phone number, he ask me that every time he calls Clayton. he wanted to know how many eggs Clayton's incubator would hold, maybe I can get chickens from Kelly.

I have some tulips sticking up with green so I should have a few this year. If you have good tulip blooms here you need to plant new bulbs every year but I can't afford that so I will prize my few blooms.

Fleta has the growing bug, we will see if she grows any thing. That is all I know except it is 60 degrees and we have a hard wind blowing.

Friday, March 06, 2009

found!

I went to feed and took my goose neck hoe and broke up some of the chicken waste in the chicken house, it is so full of manure and I need to get some of it out but this is hard work. I only had my flat edge shovel because my spade has been "LOST" since fall.

I usually stand my work tools between the house and the porch and had lost the pointed spade, I thought someone had stole it but I was wrong. I found in the dead grass that had grown up and covered it. I also found a short handle hoe that I stole from Fleta's husband about 10 years ago.
George stole it from the army and then I took it from him.

It amazing what will make you happy on a warm spring day. I have green onions growing up in the dead grass next to the house that I didn't pull last fall. I am going to try taking the weed eater out and cut the grass and the tops and hope I can take George's hoe and get some of the grass roots out and maybe I can have free green onions in April. My winter onions are growing again, corn bread and green onions will be good to eat next month.

It's spring again

At 5:15 the temperature is 65 degrees, no heat needed today. My pink rose cutting I planted last fall is greening up and I think it is going to survive. The rose of Sharon cutting I put in last fall are still dead sticks but yesterday when I touched them two were very firm in the soils so I might see some life there soon.

My home health nurse arrived on time yesterday and I gave her 2 dozen brown eggs to take with her and she seemed very pleased. I like the nurse I have now, she comes on the same day and arrives at about the same time of the day. Promptness is a good thing in my book.

I may go visit the library today if Sammy comes to take me. I had a nice visit with Fleta on the phone yesterday. She said she wasn't going to take her suicidal security when she is 62 unless Tyson Food closed their doors. I sure hope Fleta doesn't draw her suicidal security next year under that situation!

In the news..

News on drudge report what I clicked on and what I didn't, I had to read this....

A couple drove 170 kilometres (100 miles) from South Africa's famous Kruger National Park with a highly venomous spitting cobra in their car, the Beeld newspaper reported on Wednesday. The Pretoria couple made several stops to remove the snake but could not find it, until it wrapped itself around Parratt's leg. .. I am thinking didn't they have a match?

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former top Bush aides Karl Rove and Harriet Miers agreed Wednesday to testify before Congress under oath about the firings of U.S. attorneys, a controversy involving allegations of political interference that grew into a constitutional standoff between two branches of government.I think it is time to bring Rove in out of the cold!

Headlines I didn't click on....

20% chance of depression... I thought.. Joe Biden has been talking again....

Barbara Bush has heart successful heart surgery.. I always like Mrs. Bush but figured the headline said it all.

Robin Williams hospitalised with heart problems ... same with this one..

Brit's Brown wants to save the world..... Jesus has already offered a plan for that..

Woman attacked by Chimp has brain damage... She had that before the attack, else why try to help catch the chimp? I hope the chimp owner has good Insurance...

Mysterious shaking rocks in SoCal not earth quake... I lived in the Sacramento valley for five years and never saw a rock shaking or other wise... Maybe Nephew Benjamin in Arizona will get a real beach with ocean waves soon...

Russian scholar says USA will collapse next year.. Why wait Rush Limbaugh says ? I am really sick of the Limbaugh crap.. if you don't want to hear him turn off the radio! He is just a cocaine sniffing dog...

Russian General says USA may have planned satellite collision... REALLY?

Obama going gray.. wonder why?

That is about all I saw to click on or NOT!

bird photos

Fleta has a camera that can take pictures of birds but my camera isn't powerful enough for that kind of photos. I have a lot of birds in my yard because of all the corn I throw to the chickens but alas I can never get them in a picture except like this one. during the ice storm I tried several times but this little fellow was the only one I could snap and you have to look very close to see him.

I think I have lived pass the flu, the first day I was so sick to my stomach and then yesterday morning that passed but I had such pains in my gut I thought I would die but today so far I just feel my normal old self.

My brother Clayton has retired again, he went back to work for a year after his first retirement because of his need for insurance but now he has reached the magic age of 65 so he can get Medicare and so he has gone home again.

Fleta is the only one on the red dirt road who works now and I tell her you should retire when you reach 62 next year, maybe if Obama gets this health insurance bill passed she can joint the other rocking chair people and try to forget the Tyson place.

My chicken pen is very different now that I have culled the bantams. I have 12 chickens, 6 large hens and 6 bantams but come this spring I probably will have more if my health permits. I got 4 eggs yesterday and some days I get 8 if the sun is warm and the hens feel up to it. This is more than enough eggs for us.

Hell no!

MINNEAPOLIS -- The banks need another bailout and countless homeowners cannot handle their mortgage payments, but one group is paying its bills: the dead.
Dozens of specially trained agents work on the third floor of DCM Services here, calling up the dear departed's next of kin and kindly asking if they want to settle the balance on a credit card or bank loan, or perhaps make that final utility bill or cellphone payment.

I hope when I am dead some of these dead collected contact my sisters trying to collect my bills. Talk about a scorched earth policy.

Our stock market?

By 1636, inflated prices of tulip bulbs created extraordinary demand, so much so that jobbers, (today’s equivalents of specialists or floor traders), set up their own corners on the commodity exchanges of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Haarlem, Leyden, Alkmaar, Hoorn, and in many other Dutch towns. For those who could not travel to commodiy exchanges, tulip trading occurred in town taverns, over dinner and brew, and in generally very merry spirits.
Since the prize were flowers that had yet to bloom, tulip bulbs were traded as futures contracts, whereby the trade terms were set in the present for the delivery and exchange of goods and payments in the future.
At the time, it appeared the demand for tulip bulbs would last forever. Not only had the wealthy and nobility attended bulb auctions at the exchanges, but they were soon joined by merchants, ordinary citizens, farmers, tradesmen, housewives, etc. People sold their homes, their carriages, silk, tools, land, anything and everything that could be converted to cash. And then they invested it all into those beautiful, fragile flowers.
The Rude Awakening
Within the few short months in 1636, a number of investors realized that the tulip folly had little time left on its sand clock. It was the rich who first stopped buying new bulbs, quietly moving to the sell side in an effort to exploit the fact that the middle class and tradesmen would have had a much harder time giving up on their tickets to higher society than those who were already there. Eventually, however, the pool of buyers was exhausted, leading to more and more buy-side investors defaulting on their contracts.
By the time the first alarm was sounded, the damage was already irreversible. Tulip holders sought help from the Dutch government, but it refused to throw more good money after the bad. Then the tulip holders sought help from the courts, but they refused to enforce contracts that made no economic sense.
In the end, the fragile flower left in its wake destroyed lives and fortunes, shattered faith in the derivatives trading system, and the uneasy feeling that the safety net allegedly cast by the government and regulators might only be an illusion.Read more: "The History of Tulip Mania: How a Simple Flower and Bulb Ruined Many in 17t century.
Do we have our own Tulip mania today in our stock market?

I am OK HELEN

I just woke up from a 6 hour nap and the awful sick feeling is gone, I feel weak but at least the puking is gone. I am going back to bed and sleep some more. If you want my advice if you get this bug, 7up, pink pepto, and saltine crackers will help.

I know you thought I had the blocked bowels again , Helen but I knew I didn't and would have told you so except I was to sick to talk to you!

sure sign of spring

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;And then my heart with pleasure fills;
and dances with the daffodils.

And now you know the rest of the story!

Paul Harvey has died in Phoenix Arizona at the age of 90 years. I always listened to Harvey when he was on the radio. The last story I remember him telling was about Glenn Miller dieing in a brothel in France rather than dieing in a plan crash as it was reported at the time.

This is the Miller story as Paul Harvey reported it....

FRANKFURT: A mass-circulated German newspaper has reported that band leader Glenn Miller died in a Paris brothel and not in a World War II plane crash as officially reported.

I believe the brothel story because Paul Harvey told me so.

While we were in the great Ice storm I heard Paul Jr. doing a newscast and thought he isn't his father.

We have a rather lot of snow yesterday but because the ground was warm we only have about a inch to show for it. That is more than I wanted.
