on the other hand

Abortion provider Dr. George Tiller was gunned down at his Wichita church on Sunday, police say.
I have never understood how the anti abortionist people who argue that the fetus is human and alive and should not be killed while on the other hand they find no trouble in taking the lives of the Doctors and clinic workers who they kill. with a vengeance.

Lace curtain chickens

The chicks are growing and they are trying to fly out of their brooder so I hunted up a old lace curtain and covered the top of the brooder.
Yesterday I went to set the waterier in the brooder and the top popped off! One quart of water dumped in the brooder. I had to do a fast rescue and clean up . Life is never dull when you have baby chicks. I will be glad when the weather warms up or the chicks get full feathers so I can move them out side for now they are parked in the laundry room and this makes for trouble when I do laundry. the chicks will be 14 days old Monday.
My chicks the bantam hatched out are still doing great. The little hen has 9 babies that range in age of 1 week to 4 weeks. The last 3 chicks are 1/2 bantam and out of the big rooster that I had. It will be interesting to see how they look when grown. I have 35 baby chicks . I am going to have to try selling some of them on the radio program . they have a call in program on the Berryville radio station where you can call and try to sell things you have for sale.

new tomb stone hunter

Janet's Friend Rayleene Beman wanted her to find the Beman tomb stone so we drove into the grave yard and Janet started searching after walking for a few feet she looked at me setting in the truck for help. I didn't move so she walked some more then she got in the truck and started driving on the roads in the cemetery.
The next time Fleta has to go hunting for a burial site she can get Janet to help her. I never left the truck and I saw all the tomb stones I wanted to see. I can spot a Powell tomb stone from a mile away.

Who whould of thunk it!

I watched Kieth olberman tonight which I have not been doing of late because he always is on a rant and frankly he is over the top to much in my opinion.
I watched tonight because Mancow who I always think of as Madcow was there to talk about the waterboarding as tortue.
I thought when waterboarding was over it was over unless you were afraid they would waterbpard you again but madcow said he had chest pains for 3 days after his 6 second waterboarding . Who would have dreamed that it would have that much effect on a person! He said he would have told them anything he knew or what ever he thought they wanted to hear after being waterboarded.
Yes it is torture,as were all the other unseemly thinks that our government did during the 8 years of the Cheney torture years.

One week old

The chicks are a week old and all is well. No deaths yet.
My brother Gilbert came by and I gave him 6 bantams now I only have one bantam in my flock. They were setting all the time and I am glad they are gone.
My little bantam has 9 babies and is doing a good job caring for her kiddies.
Rained all day today.

Shot!

The post by Betty in Harrison reminded me of a story about Winnie Jo's mama and daddy.
One time they were traveling by car on vacation out west and they were in a National park perhaps yellow stone tho' I really don't know if it was yellow stone perhaps Winnie Jo will remember.
My aunt Fleta often called uncle Harold "Merk" which was their last name.
uncle Harold told daddy they were in the park enjoying the wild life from the safety of the car when a bear came by and become very interested in their car. Uncle Harold had a small pistol in the glove box.
Aunt Fleta was scared of the bear and she yelled "Merk shot it, shot it" uncle told daddy the pistol would have just made the bear mad. so if it was yellow stone Merk had a gun in the park long ago!
In early December President Bush kept his promise and came through for gun owners who supported him by loosening rules allowing loaded, concealed guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.

gardening

Gardening is a art that must be learned. My son Sammy has helped with the garden this year and nothing has turned out right. The lettuce is in spots. the radishes are a few here and a few there.
I grow my tomatoes in old car tires which has always been a good way for me to grow tomatoes. I buy top soil and fill the tires and every year I have a bountiful crop. This year Sammy went to get the top soil. I noticed when I went to open the sacks something odd. It said top soil, good for filling pot holes in the drive way.
The soil was just a hard rock. The tomatoes after 3 weeks were not growing. I went to walmart yesterday and bought new soil and new tomato plants. I dug out the soil which was like concrete, put in new soil and new plants. Here I am the last of May and just started my tomatoes.
I think the tomatoes will grow will now. I had 3 plants in my garden and they were doing fine so I know it was that stupid stuff in the tires that wasn't made to grow anything.
Live and learn.

I love this

If you have never had to listen to mancow I will tell you He is loud, vile and obnoxious and now I can say he is a fool as well but he knows what torture is now.
On the other hand Dick Cheney's daughter says that her dad was afraid that we the people were going to prosecute some of the guys who did the torture thing. Yeah he is afraid he will get jail time.
Chicago radio host Erich "Mancow" Muller decided he'd get himself waterboarded to prove the technique wasn't torture. It didn't turn out that way. "Mancow," in fact, lasted just six or seven seconds before crying foul. Apparently, the experience went pretty badly -- "Witnesses said Muller thrashed on the table, and even instantly threw the toy cow he was holding as his emergency tool to signify when he wanted the experiment to stop," according to NBC Chicago."The average person can take this for 14 seconds," Marine Sergeant Clay South told his audience before he was waterboarded on air. "He's going to wiggle, he's going to scream, he's going to wish he never did this."Mancow was set on a 7-foot long table with his legs elevated and his feet tied."I wanted to prove it wasn't torture," Mancow said. "They cut off our heads, we put water on their face...I got voted to do this but I really thought 'I'm going to laugh this off.' "The upshot? "It is way worse than I thought it would be, and that's no joke," Mancow told listeners. "It is such an odd feeling to have water poured down your nose with your head back...It was instantaneous...and I don't want to say this: absolutely torture."

Infamous relatives

Some days I can't find much to blog about and some days things just fall into my lap from the local paper.
The other day Fleta and me were talking about our blogs and sister expressed the opinion that we should not put anything personal about family on our blog. I agreed with her but now I am breaking that rule since this is my husbands relatives and not my blood kin.
Miss Robert's is the granddaughter of my husband's niece, Shirley Gillion!
Harrison Police Capt. Paul Woodruff said a man and woman were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in connection with the robbery of First National Bank of Green Forest earlier in the day. They were arrested as they attempted to leave the city about 2 p.m.Late Monday night, Woodruff released the names of those individuals.
The bank teller put money in the bag and Carmen fled the bank, driving away in the Dodge Stratus. He then drove to the nearby Windstream parking lot, where he put the license plate back on the car. Roberts then picked him up in another car, Woodruff said, and they went back to their residence on North Cherry Street.Police located the vehicle and began surveillance. At some point during that time, Carmen and Roberts returned to the parking lot, but left when they spotted a surveillance officer and went back home Woodruff said.By that time, police had identified the owner of the Dodge and had even determined where the pair lived. Police then started watching that house. After Carmen and Roberts left the Windstream parking lot, Woodruff said, they went home and repeatedly called a taxi service requesting a ride to the airport in Springfield, Mo.As police were preparing to make contact with the suspects in the house, the taxi arrived and Carmen and Roberts got in with their baggage. Police then initiated a traffic stop and arrested the suspects, but Woodruff said the taxi driver was unaware of the robbery incident earlier in the day.“[The driver] had no idea what they had done,” Woodruff said. After searching bags the two suspects had taken into the taxi vehicle, Woodruff said police recovered the clothing Carmen wore in the bank, as well as money still in the bag. Woodruff said Roberts also had a sum of money in her pocket.

roses

This rose bush is the prettiest rose bush I have it is a Ozark climbing rose.
The temperature is 60 degrees this morning with sunshine. Rain is in the forecast for the next several days.
My tomato plants are not doing well. I am thinking about pulling them up and starting over I am also thinking about just giving up and saying OH WELL to growing any thing this year.
My son planted the radishes and the lettuce and didn't do a good job so the two vegetables have a few here and a few there. When it was time to plant he said I will do it I know how but he didn't know how.

red sex link, golden Comet

the red sex links Igot were golden comets and these hens have a lot of white feathers mixed with red feathers.
Red Sex-Links are the result of various crosses. White Rocks with the silver factor (the dominant white gene would produce all white offspring) are crossed with a New Hampshire male to produce the Golden Comet. Silver Laced Wyandotte crossed with New Hampshire gives the Cinnamon Queen. Two other crosses are obtained with Rhode Island White x Rhode Island Red, and Delaware x Production Red. These two crosses are simply called Red Sex-Links. Males hatch out white and, depending on the cross, feather out to pure white or with some black feathering. Females hatch out buff or red also depending on cross, and they feather out in one of three ways.

white rocks

I have 5 white rocks
Origin: Developed in America in the middle of the 19th century and was first exhibited as a breed in 1869. Several individuals claimed its invention, using crosses of Dominique, Java, Cochin, and perhaps Malay and Dorking. The first Rocks was barred and other varieties developed later. The Breed became popular very rapidly, and in fact, until World War II, no breed was ever kept and bred as extensively as the Barred Plymouth Rock. Its popularity came from its qualities as an outstanding farm chicken: hardiness, docility, broodiness, and excellent production of both eggs and meat. Most of the other varieties were developed from crosses containing some of the same ancestral background as the barred variety. Early in its development, the name Plymouth Rock implied a barred bird, but as more varieties were developed, it became the designation for the breed. The Barred Plymouth Rock was one of the foundation breeds for the broiler industry in the 1920's, and the White Rock continues to be used as the female side of the commercial broiler cross.

black australorp

I have 5 like this.
Origin: The Australorp was developed in Australia from Black Orpington stock. It is smaller than the Orpington with a trimmer appearance.
Characteristics: Australorps have intense beetle-green sheen on the black birds, dark eyes, deep bodies and are very active. They are one of the best dual-purpose fowls, having gained attention in the 1930s and '40s by being one side of the successful AustaWhite cross. This cross of Australorp x White Leghorn became the successor to purebred breeds on many Midwestern farms. Broodiness was a problem with the cross and some markets discounted the tinted eggs they laid. Therefore, it soon fell victim to the inbred hybrid crosses of "Hyline" and "DeKalb." Australorps are good egg producers and hold the world's record for egg production with one hen having laid 364 eggs in 365 days under official Australian trapnest testing.

I will have new photos to share.
It is a cool 49 degrees this morning but sunshine is in the forecast.

Pentagon

I guess the pentagon should have done some reading about torture and love thy neighbor while they were quoting from the Bible they were attacking prisoners with dogs and waterboarding the same. Nothing is more dangerous than some one who does evil and uses their religion to justify their evil.

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon said Monday it no longer includes a Bible quote on the cover page of daily intelligence briefings it sends to the White House as was practice during the Bush administration.
Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said he did not know how long the Worldwide Intelligence Update cover sheets quoted from the Bible. Air Force Maj. Gen. Glen Shaffer, who was responsible for including them, retired in August 2003, according to his biography.
For a period in 2003, at least, the daily reports prepared for President George W. Bush carried quotes from the books of Psalms and Ephesians and the Gospel of Peter. At the time, the reports focused largely on the war in Iraq.

sick chicken

I found this on one of the chickens sites. This woman had a sick nankin chicken. I think a nankin is a bantam breed. i say that if a chicken is sick and you don't think it will get better, kill it! this is showing mercy and protecting the rest of the flock. A chicken when it gets sick usual will not get better. this woman took her chicken to a vet and the truth is it probably it will die even after the vet doctored it. She is upset , the vet tried to charge her 800 dollars and then adjusted the bill to 239 dollars. this is what she wrote about the vet. She would have been better service to her bird if she had destroyed him before she took it on a fools errand. you can click on the bill and read it. I went back and read more and this chick was 6 weeks old! A total waste and she paid with a credit card. Even she said she was sure it would die.

Woe is me. I never saw it coming. This predator, this evil nuisance, didn't scare me at first. After all, he walked in on two legs. And within five minutes of looking, poking, prodding, and sniffing my smallest, weakest nankin, this monster had the audacity to try and charge me over $800 so that he could tell me what was wrong with NoName. He even had the chick open its beak and say "ahhh".NoName? I guess it's easier to prey on small avian animals when you don't name them first, but he thought he had us targeted. But we wouldn't be mesmerized by his evil stare. Neither did we get away Scot free. Please look at this "vet's" bill.

chicks

The chicks with the hen are doing fine in this photo you can see how much difference 13 days make in chick development.
49 degrees and cool this morning, will we ever get a normal day here in temperature? the high today is suppose to be 68 degrees.
My hatchery chicks are to be here next Wednesday.
My son sold 24 hens at the huntiville sale last night and they brought 9 dollars each. I don't see how people can give that for a hen and expect to make back the cost of the hen.

What do you know?

On this day 72 years ago mom and dad married. This was a big day for daddy and he would remind us of this day.

A week ago I had been having problems with my computer, It would hang up and I wasn't able to get off a web page. The only way I could get off the web page was to Manuel shut my computer down. When I rebooted the computer my antivirus would always be turned off and my updates would have to be down loaded again which was a pain because with my dial up this takes 2 hours.

I was thinking about this and realized ever time this happen I was on the news site drudge and would be on a news story they had on their site. I read all the news site I can because I enjoy the reading of the news but I decide I would stop going on drudge and see if the problem still happened. It stopped and so I deleted the drudge report from my favorites.

Today I found this news story on policital.com ....The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts directed employees earlier this month not to log onto the Drudge report website with government-issued computers due to potential virus on the site.

looking for a loving home

The bad economy is making the family pet homeless in greater Numbers. The Carroll county shelter has these wire haired terriers looking for homes. They look just the same so only one photo will do. These dogs are 7 years old and no doubt have been family pets.
Fleta needs to go over and adopt one or both of these. Look at this sweet face doesn't it just break your heart.
She could get both of these dogs and when Helen homes in on vacation she could take one home with her.

Turkey

Turkeys are roaming free on my sister's land. My father first brought the wild turkey to our home 30 years ago and now my brother keeps them going.

Ben Franklin wanted to name this bird our national emblem but the eagle was chosen and I believe it should be our emblem because the eagle is a bird of prey.

yoyo sport

This is the sport off of my yellow rose.
I had corn cake and green onions with milk for dinner. I am like the Israelites wondering in the desert. We want onions even if we were slave in Egypt we had onions.

A surprise

14 years ago I planted 3 rose bushes in back of the trailer and they failed to grow. Yesterday Sam came in and said I had a rose blooming in back of the house. The original flower had put out a rose from the root stock. This is a sport from the rose I planted originally.I hope the rose keeps growing . Most hybrid roses are rooted on another rose bush that is more vigorous and this is what is here. The same thing has happen to my yellow rose in the flower garden and that sport is very hardy. I hope this will be also.
The net is a place of wonder. I did some research and found that most hybrid roses are grown on a DR. Huey rose stock because the hybrid rose is not hardy when the rose bush dies the root stock on which it was grown put out a plant. Mine is called a Yoyo and is a Dr. Huey climbing rose that blooms in the spring. This yoyo rose is near to a wild rose.

A good mother

I put the 5 chicks the little hen hatched out under the light thinking she would hatch more after 13 days she hatched one lone chick. What a mess. I put her in a dog coop with the chick and when it was dark I sliped in the 5 older chicks. She took them under her wings and the next morning I moved her and the 6 to the out side brooder. so now she has 6 babies to raise. All is well.

peonies

Cultivation
Peonies are extremely easy to grow in many areas from zone 3 to 8. They like full sun in all but the hottest climates. Too little sun and you will have few blooms. Even if you have an hour or two of full sun and partial shade the rest of the day, your flower show will suffer. However, if you have long, hot summers a little light shade, especially in the afternoon, can be beneficial and preserve the color of your flowers.
Soil should be well drained and rich. Poor soil with poor drainage will annihilate your peonies quickly.
Peonies can be slow growers, especially if you start with small divisions. Young plants can take several years before flowering.
Peonies need good nutrition to produce those spectacular flowers. However, unless your soil actually needs amending (sandy, for example) adding a good compost in the fall should do the trick. If you need to add a fertilizer, scratch a granular type into the soil in spring when you fertilize the rest of your perennials.
Plant so the top of the divisions are no deeper than two inches.
The peonies have an eye simlar to a potato and the eye needs to be no deeper than two inches from the top of the soil.

Mother's day

I had a good mothers day gift. Kelly came by and brought a fellow to fix my air condition. It wasn't cooling as it should now it's like living in the north pole.
Cheney is still giving speeches about Obama policies about water boarding endangering the nation and by changing president's Bush's polices. The key word in all of Cheney's little rants is BUSH. Cheney wants to plant the seed that all the dirt was President Bush's fault and keep Cheney out of jail.
I believe that Dick Cheney is the essence of evil. He also says Colon Powell is not a Republican. He is trying to discredit Powell and I think the reason is Powell has enough information to send Cheney to prison.

peonies

The peonies are about in full bloom and looks like I will have 5 plants bloom this year. 3 red, 1 white and 1 pink. The rose roses are trying to bloom.
The family next door said my old neighbor had tick fever and would be coming home in a week. It amazes me that the doctors thought he was having strokes and now say he has tick fever.
We had sunshine again yesterday and everything out side is trying to dry out.

Feed cats again

I am feeding my neighbor's cats again but this time he hasn't gone to California. They took him to the veterans hospital in Fayettiville Arkansas Monday and said he had a light stroke. He is 81 years old. yesterday they said he was having strokes and his brain was shutting done so I think I will be feeding the cats every morning until I leave this Vail of tears.
He was always pulling grass or working at his junking trade and I sat and watched him across the fence to see what he would do next but there will be no work across the fence when he goes.

Drew Peterson

They arrested Peterson for the murder of his third wife, You can Tell by his looks he is a dirty low down killer, right? The law wants to try him on the letters of protection in which his third wife said he would kill her to shut her up.
If this is all the proof they have this should not be allowed, after all the accused has the right to face the accuser and even tho' he is as ugly as sin if they were allowed to convict someone for ugly a lot of us would be in trouble.
I saw that he had a new pretty girl friend, some people don't have a brain.
I am sure that he killed his third and fourth wife but you can't convict a person just because we are sure he did the deed.

storms and nightmares

Severe thunderstorms in the Midwest have killed four people, collapsing a church and knocking out power to thousands but we didn't have any wind just rain.

Fleta had surgery on her knee and when I called her she said it had been hurting but she had taken a pain pill and was doing OK. I told she go light on the pills and save me some but she refused.

I was having a nightmare when I woke. I dreamed I was back working at Tyson on my old job. I worked on this cat walk 12 feet in the air and my job was to take the pieces of chicken that were seconds off the belt as the chicken came out of the freezer.

In my dream I was working with two young girls and all sort of things were coming down on the belt. There were nails, tools such as wrenches and whole birds coming out of the freezer. I told the girls they should do something about this because it was a hazard. They told me they couldn't do any thing about it. I thought, I will and when I woke I was on my way to first aid to tell them I hurt my knee when I slipped on the stuff that was coming out of the freezer that I was told to throw down on our walking area because no one could stop the stuff from coming threw the freezer. When I woke my knee was hurting, guess that was why I was dreaming such stuff but If I hadn't woke I would have solved the problem I bet.

When I have nightmares Tyson is usually involved.

Two ignoramuses, no make that a whole bunch

Rahm Emanuel, has this habit and some want to know why is he always smelling his finger, not me!

Elizebeth Hasselbeck says Joe's statement about homosexuals near his children....

"I think this is an ignoramus statement," Hasselbeck said. "In that specified corner to which he had a life during this election, I was even a person who thought, you know what, power to Joe the Plumber at that point. Well, Joe the Plumber is not invited anywhere around me. "

LOCKPORT, Ill. — Drew Peterson, was indicted Thursday in the drowning of an ex-wife found dead in an empty bathtub in 2004.

On what was Hannity and Homes and now is just Hannity, Hannity says mustard on cheeseburger is elite,

he "stress tests" or something, bringing the entire press corps in tow. Well, it took all of Sean Hannity's brain power to come up with a joke about it, but he finally decided to make fun of the fact that Obama wanted a "spicy" or "Dijon" mustard on his cheeseburger

Joe the plumer quitting GOP maybe he decided they were queer....

Dick Cheney argued that the policies which he and other Bush administration officials pursued such as water boarding was successful and he's is glad he was part of it. Move over Peterson and make room for Cheney.

I have posted all I know except the sun has been shining for the last two days and the ground is drying out here.

you can run but not hide

One of the people in my followers list has been a puzzle to me for a while! If I click on a photo in the list it will take me to their web page but not this one and I wondered who is this? so I google her and found her blog. Ha!
Click on the title of this page and you can tell her I have outed her. She has a blog worth reading.

roosters

My neighbors are going to wake this morning with a vague feeling that something is wrong for the first time in years I don't have a rooster crowing in my chicken pen last week when I went in the chicken pen the rooster flogged me and hit me on my lower leg. I try to avoid any sores on my legs or feet because I know that old people have problems with sores on their legs. The wound has not been a problem but it is something that I try to avoid so when My son Kelly showed up for my birthday I sent the rooster home with him. I told Kelly that I was going to stand out side and watch the rooster flog him. Kelly said he wont bother me but sure enough he jumped at Kelly and hit him on the leg. Kelly had heavy jeans on but I bet he felt the blow! I would have butchered the rooster but I was too lazy. I wont have a rooster crowing for a while but the neighbor better not get used to the quite.
Kelly brought me a gift of another rooster but he wont crow since he is not living.

driving

This is Betty's grandson enjoying playing with the car. this made me think of my granddaughter
Jessie Ann.
She is grown now but when she wasn't much older than Clayton My kids went down to the lake to swim and they left Jessie asleep in the parked car. The baby woke and knocked the car out of gear. The car started rolling and rolled in the water. When they got the baby out of the car she said "oh shit." We had never hear her say a word before these words.

more rain

This is a close up of the blooms on my bridal wreath bush. I am thinking this morning on the life of my sister, Debbie, she was a beautiful person and we miss her greatly. She is singing with the host of angels in heaven. Betty has a post on the DNA of our mother which says we are related to the kings of Europe but I can do one better, we are related to angels.

rain

The snails are looking for high ground because there is so much water in the yard and my winter onions are putting out seed for sister. We had a hard rain this morning at about 5 O'clock. still raining at this time which is 10 O'clock
snail cooked
First you clean your snails, put them in a wood book for 4 days ,feeding them on corn meal, after 4 days take them and wash well in cold water, then drop them in boiling water skiming off the foam as it comes to the top. until the foam at the top stops then they are cooked..
2 tablespoons Minced onion1/2 pound Butter, melted1/4 teaspoon Lemon juice26 blanched * fresh escargot2 tablespoons Garlic powdermedium-sized mushrooms, stemps removed, washed (as many as needed)
Directions:
Saute minced onion in 1/4 cup butter. Add lemon juice. Place escargot in mushroom caps in individual dishes. Spoon onion and butter over escargot. Sprinkle lightly with garlic powder. Let stand for two hours.Pour mixture of remaining butter and garlic powder over escargot. Bake @ 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Serve with garlic toast.* To Blanch Escargot: Blanching is the first step in preparing escargot dishes. Fill a 3 quart pan half full of water (enough to cover the snails). When water boils, drop in the rinsed snails. Boil vigorously for 3 minutes (no more or the snails will get tough). Remove snails and rinse in cold water. Remove nails from shells with a toothpick. Place snails in bowl containing a mixture of half water and half vinegar for two hours. Snails are now ready to simmer in sauces. They may be cut into two or three pieces, if desired. Blanched snails, may be frozen.
