I got the DVD Helen sent me that I made in 1995 and i learned something. I never liked Gilbert's 2ND wife. I said she wouldn't let anyone else talk but I learned she couldn't hold a candle to the lady holding the video camera. after I watched the one video I am give out can't watch the others for a while.

the sun is out

12 o'clock and 25 degrees here, neither of the 2 people who was wanting snow has went out side tho' Sammy did go out and shovel the porch and steps off for me.

I made it to the hen house at 12 and had to get the hoe to dig the ice and snow away from the door before I could get in the house. 17 eggs . I took a bucket of hot water and feed the hens corn . They came out when they saw the corn. I took Sammy's out side dog a piece of the ham Rhine with fat and a little lean meat attached. She sort of looked and then she smelled the food and grabbed the chunk and off she went. I wish the wind would stop.

I hope this will be all the snow and ice for this year and for this winter.

This is the reason I hate snow and ice. The dog is Sammy's out side dog and all the hens made it into the house except this one hen. I feel so bad for the animals in our neighbor hood ever time i look out.

no snow here yet but the TV said Kansas and Oklahoma were in the midst of a major snow storm, we had a lot of rain today and tonight.
I had company today My husband's grand nephew and his wife came by and stayed for a visit. I haven't cooked any thing today just did not try. I need to eat less and so I just didn't do any cooking at all. I will have to make some punkin' pies Kelly said he would be by tomorrow.

I think we are going to be by passed by most of the snow but we could see some. My son said he hope we got 2 feet of snow! He doesn't realize that he will have to find a way to get Janet to work and back and by the time he clears me a path to the chicken pens he wont want any more snow.

ever thing I am reading says the health insurance bill is going to pass the senate by Christmas eve. There is a lot of nay Sayers out and about this bill and I don't know how to feel about the bill but I am greatly encouraged when I read the republications are vowing to fight on against the bill. If The GOP is against it I suppose I will be for it.
The price of gas is down by 4 cents a gallon , remember when King George was with us and the price was going up everyday ? I guess I am happier with this Democrat leadership than I was a week ago. Speaking of differences I see a small reduction in the prices in the grocery store in the last few months also.
The weather has been nice the last few days and we haven't had the snow storms like they have had on the east coast. The chickens appreciate the nice weather. they gave me 24 eggs today.
The chickens have been cackling after dark and I always go open the door and check to see what is going on in the pen, I can't See anything wrong and was thinking that I don't remember my chickens raising a fuss after they went to roost before this year then I realized that these chickens roost in the pen instead of in the hen house so no doubt that is the difference in the flock.I am or daughter is selling all the extra eggs at work. I charge a dollar a dozen and some are telling Janet that is to cheap but the way I see it a person has to keep the price in reason and not kill the goose that is laying the golden egg. I suspect some of the buyers are buying for themselves and other family member. I don't see how Connie Wallace could use 5 dozen eggs a week Maybe Doctor Wallace is eating brown eggs for breakfast.
My joints, especially my knees has been giving me a lot of pain but today they have been a little better it is strange how the pain will be so bad and then will ease down with out a apparent reason. I have told you about all I know so good night!

Welsummer chickens

Welsummer chickens were created in the little Dutch village of Welsum, Holland around the turn of the century.
This is how they came to be named Welsumer, only changing to Welsummer when they were brought to the States.
They were developed there from breeds such as Partridge Wyandotte, Partridge Cochin, Partridge Leghorn, and then later, Barnevelder and RIR.
They are highly sought after as a production bird, laying a good amount of beautiful dark red/brown eggs.
The eggs are also sometimes speckled with a dark overcoloring.
Brown/Red is the Standard color of the Welsummer, but it also occurs in Silver Duckwing and Gold duckwing in both Large Fowl and Bantam forms.

I have been reading the news and most of what I read is that the health care bill is about to bare fruit but nothing I read is saying the bill is good. The liberal Democrats like Howard Dean has come out to say it should be voted down . Joe Lieberman and his crowd says a public option over their dead body.

What are we to believe? I suppose what ever will be will be and we don't really have any control over what the great leaders in DC are going to do. Take the war No.1 and No. 2 wars,

does the man in the street, the ever day American, the me and you crowd want this war to continue? Was Obama elected president on the promise he would STOP the war? Has he done so? NO! he has widened the war. MORE troops. More war machines!

What about health care? There is a lesson here, If you get sick you are going to die, you will get sick eventually, You will die eventually. The world will keep on turning with out you.

Our neighbor drinks, his wife is drawing disability, their daughter who lives with them has one child who is less than two years old, she is due to have another in a few weeks. Last week she bought a new car on payments of $500.00 per month and no one has a job,How did the people who sold her the car think she would pay for it? The answer is they didn't expect her to pay. They knew she couldn't pay! The lover of the girl, who is her uncle by marriage signed a paper that they could take his income tax return in January which is $ 1800. because he is going to claim the girl and her baby on his income tax form while she is drawing welfare.

I have been getting this phone call, When I say hello, this man says, DO you want your tax dollars to pay for ABORTION? I have just hung up the 3 times they have called but if they call again I am going to say YES, if we can make it retroactive for YOUR Mama! of course what am I bitching about at least that fellow has employment.

Frosty morn

went to feed the chickens this morning and forgot to take hot water so I broke the ice and the girls gathered around for a cool drink. 20 degrees this morning and frosty. I got 20 eggs yesterday. Janet will take them to sell Friday.

If the price of chickens are as high as they were last January I am going to send some of my hens to market this January.

Wild chickens

pack of wild chickens has colonized the 600 block of Pierce Street in South Philadelphia.
Everyone on the block knows about them — it's impossible not to. From the roosters' first early-morning cock-a-doodle-doos to the final muffled clucking of the brood as it settles down for the night, the chickens make a din that can be heard on either side of the block and, indeed, from a few blocks away.
They're everywhere — lurking in the tall grasses of the block's vacant lots, clambering over the concrete walls that separate neighbors' yards, seeking out friendly humans with a bite to eat, escorting the chicks, like ducklings, across the road.
No one knows how many there are.
"Once, I counted 40!" shouts a kid who lives on the block, but a nearby group of adults shake their heads: He could never have counted them, they say.
Not that 40 is a crazy number. This spring there are babies everywhere, and residents report finding eggs stashed in their yards. The chickens have already colonized both sides of Pierce, and residents say they've seen — or at least heard — chickens on neighboring blocks, as well.
The population, it seems, has become self-sustaining. The chickens mate, they lay eggs, they find their own food, raise their own young. They seem to be relatively safe from predators and other urban fauna. "What's interesting," muses Jaime Antonio Jr., "is that we have a lot of cats on the block, and they don't mess with them. You'd think they'd kill them."
At night, the chickens ascend the neighborhood trees and brood there, safe among the branches. In the colder months, they somehow manage not to freeze.
"In the winter, they just sit up in the trees with snow on them," comments resident Sarah Pohlman. "It's wild."
Or, rather, they're wild. The chickens don't belong to anyone and no one, officially at least,takes care of them (they do have, shall we say, friends). They're just there, and most of the neighbors have gotten used to it.
Whence came these chickens?
The answer, according to everyone on the block, is fairly straightforward: They came from whoever used to live at 531 Pierce St., now rented as an apartment under new ownership.
"This guy used to live there, and he had chickens," explains Jaime Antonio Sr. When the man went to jail, Antonio Sr. says, he left behind at least one hen, which Antonio Sr. took upon himself to look after.
"I come in, I give it water and food every day," he explains, "but then the house went to the bank, so I just open the door and let it out."
Meanwhile, Antonio Sr. says, there was this other guy, a block down, who had a rooster (neither still lives in the area, he said).
"I guess they got together."
Public records do list as a previous owner of the house on Pierce one Luis Felipe Jimenez, who was charged in 2005 with the manufacture or possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, to which he pled guilty and served some time. The house later became the property of the sheriff.
In any case, residents agree that the heavy chicken presence on the block is only a few years old, but that the chickens have been astonishingly successful in that time.
This was particularly evident, say residents, when animal control arrived last year to collect the fowl. No one seems to know who called the authorities, but nearly everyone on the block remembers that they came — and that they failed.
Sarah Pohlman, who now rents at the very house where the colony supposedly originated, remembers it well: Hearing the chickens in the underbrush of a vacant lot, she says, the authorities began cutting the grass and proceeding forward."But they forgot that chickens can fly," says Pohlman. "When they got to the back they were like, oh ... where's the chickens?"
Chris Marshall, who lives a few doors down, remembers it, too. "They had little cages and they were chasing them and kind of laughing the whole time, because they obviously never dealt with that before," he recalls. "And the chickens were kind of winning."
"[Animal Control] took like 15," says Antonio Sr. "But now there are many again."
For some, the growing chicken population on Pierce Street is at best an annoyance.
"I have very mixed feelings about them," admits Pohlman, who's lived on the block for about two years. "They're novel and they make it feel less like a city. But they are smelly and they do crow about every seven seconds in the mornings."
Marshall, another relative newcomer to the block who has in the past called authorities about the birds, has his own reservations.
The "worst it ever got," he says, is when a hen refused to leave her eggs, which she had laid in his yard. "I sprayed a hose at her and she wouldn't move. Maybe I'm a mean person, but I got a stick and said, 'I'll kill your babies!' I destroyed her eggs and she finally got up after that. But that was after trying hard to get her to leave."
Kim Wolf, public relations specialist for the Pennsylvania SPCA, which currently holds the contract for Philadelphia animal control, says that most of the agency's poultry-related calls involve animals being kept by individuals, which she says is illegal."But we do encounter chickens who have escaped from captivity and are living in a neighborhood," Wolf says. "It doesn't happen often, but when it does happen we respond and attempt to capture them."

I have heard over the years that some think that factory workers such as Tyson workers were of low intelligent and had little education. I always felt this was unfair and untrue but I may have to revisit my opinion of Tyson workers.

The company has always gave the employees a Christmas gift and for the last few years this gift has been $25 gift coupon that can be spent in the company store or in any store for Tyson products and now that has been reduced to $10 dollars. I would agree that this is a poor Christmas gift but that is not my subject.

My daughter works in the break room and some of the workers threw their coupon in the floor in disgust I suppose to show their displeasure in the gift to my way of thinking that is like throwing away a $10 dollar bill. My daughter rescued the coupons, I raised my children to know what a $10 bill was!

Daughter took me to wal-mart today. I spent money, on the way home 3 hen turkeys crossed the road in front of us. They were a pretty sight. I saw sarges bushes blooming They usually bloom in the spring, weird.
I saw this old woman, older than me and that is old, walking in the dry creek bed and above her under this over hanging bluff like a cave was this canvas chair, I wondered if the street people were around here living in caves?
Yesterday I went to Harps market and there was an old woman talking to the woman that works for the drugest talking about being so old and having no reason to live any longer. She should be as lucky as I am and have a daughter to take her to wal-marts and get to see wild turkeys and blooming bushes.

O'Reilly said the clip was "defamatory and outrageous" and played clips from past episodes of his Fox News program that showed the host defending "poor people who only want a better life."

It's 19 kids now.
"18 Kids and Counting" mom Michelle Duggar gave birth to a baby girl Thursday night via emergency C-section, although she wasn't due to give birth until spring, reportedly on March 18.
Josie Brooklyn Duggar weighed in at 1 lb, 6 ounces .There was no explantion as to why they did the c-section. I hope someone will tell this man enough is enough.

Tiger woods has been in the news because of the women coming out of the wood work saying they have know him in a sexual manner. the last count I heard was 10 then I read his wife had left him. This morning I woke early and fired up my computer and learned that a woman had been put in a ambulance at his home at 2:30 Am and since his wife no longer lived with him MUST be number 11.
Just now I read it was "GASP" his mother-in-law that was removed by ambulance. I guess tiger has been living with his mother-in-law.
