wednesday

I found 9 eggs in the hen's nest this morning. I don't know if SAM gathered them early yesterday or not at all.
The hens were ready for feeding.
the weather is unusual in that it is 55 degrees and suppose to be 67 for a high.
I saw where the weather man was calling for a snow storm for Midwest but the best i could see they thought we would get one inch maybe not.
I put some sausage in a pan and canned biscuits are in the oven . The aroma of Breakfast is in the air.

I read yesterday was a leap year, leap year is suppose to be an opportunity for women to pop the question. The question is up to the ladies.

Thank God

I am no repub but the thought of that Santrum maybe being the repub nominee made me want to throw up to borrow a phrase from Santrum. if he was on the ticket it would mean he might be president. NEVER!
Mitt Romney won both of Tuesday’s Republican presidential primaries, routing Rick Santorum in Arizona and narrowly securing Michigan, his birth state. The victories will provide an important boost for Romney, a former Massachusetts governor who has sought to cast himself as the GOP’s inevitable nominee. He has now won primary contests in six states: New Hampshire, Florida, Nevada, Maine, Michigan and Arizona.
Sanrrum was a setting senator in Pennsylvania. and the voter kicked him out. This was the year the repubs candidate for president, George Bush won again but not the senator.xample, even though he owned a modest home in Pennsylvania, he moved his family to a much nicer house in Virginia, leading to charges not only that he had abandoned his home state but also that he had gone native in Washington. In Virginia, Santorum kept his home-schooled children in a program run by the Western Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. That cost Pennsylvania taxpayers thousands of dollars a year, and some of Santorum's political opponents demanded that he reimburse the state. "Just pay the money back," Casey said to Santorum in one debate. "You ripped off the taxpayers. Pay it back." Santorum declined, and an adjudicator ruled in his favor, but the school issue highlighted the fact that Santorum had left Pennsylvania behind. Finally, there was Santorum's personality. In the Senate as well as in his home state, Santorum often struck people as arrogant and headstrong, preachy and judgmental. Even today, he sometimes becomes so involved in an argument that he seems intent more on winning the argument than reaching some sort of useful agreement. Throughout his career Santorum has always maintained that his forthrightness means everyone knows where he stands. Sometimes it means people know they don't like him. Amen!

A friend

The light has dawned with sisters help. The card and the plaque both came from my freind in Ill. Betty Burbank.
Sister helped me figure it out . Good thing I might never have figured it out on my own.

mail today

Sammy went to get the mail, I had a package from sister ,Betty and a card from a Friend in Illinois. I opened the package and it was a plaque saying , a Friend loves at all times then I opened the card from the Friend who is named Betty also on the front of the card it said" a Friend loves at all times."
What is going on here is God sending me a message?

Ricky ticky ..

This man is so stupid surly the repubs wont nominate him for president this is what he said yesterday...
President Obama wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob," Santorum said as the crowd howled with laughter and applause. [...]"That's why he wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image," Santorum said to more applause. "I want to create jobs so people can remake their children into their image, not his." mean while he sends his children to college.

You’re just unpopular.” – Jay Leno

selling chickens

The silkie standing at the open gate is a rooster and the only silkie rooster I have I think.
When Sam

bought these silkies he bought 2 crates and one crate was all rooster, he has sold them back to the sale and the other 11 silkies were pullets except for the one rooster. Sammy says they can't tell the roosters from the hens in the silkies at the sale. I took me a while but I can pick out the roosters from the hens now. I might have to go over to the sale and tell them when they have roosters or hens.
At first I couldn't tell them apart but I knew if I watched them long enough I would be able to tell the hen from the rooster and I can now.

Sammy sold his leghorn hens so we are not getting as many big eggs . My Rhode Island Red hens are still pullets and only 3 of them are laying. They will all be laying soon since it is the time of the year when all the chickens start laying.
I caught a rooster out of Sammy's chicken pen . He was a bigger rooster and I saw him on one of the little bantam hens the other day. he had her mashed into the ground and I thought I am going to get rid of you so I caught him and two of the top knot chickens SAM has in his bantam pen and told him to take them to the sale. Perhaps the rooster will bring more if he is sold with the 2 hens.

tattoo

On my links you see "me" that is Donna up near KC. She has a post about the fact she would like to have a tattoo. I can't imagine wanting one but that got me to thinking about this woman at work.
She left her husband and took up with this guy at work being a not so bright person, Rosie took her self to a local tattoo paroler here in town and had Gary's name tattooed on her private place where the hair is known to grow.
She showed her new tattoo off in the ladies rest room is the reason I saw it not that I ask to view the art.
OK, two weeks later the hot romance was over and Rosie returned to her husband and two small children. Before she rejoined the hubby in the marriage bed she visited the tattoo paroler again and had a rose tattooed over Gary's name.

MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo.-- A company called
Unified Equine, LLC want the Ozarks to be home to it's first processing plant
for horse meat for human consumption. The proposed plant would be just east of
Mountain Grove near the Wright- Texas County line in the Twin Cities Industrial
Park.Unified Equine has been working on
its business
model for two years, and when federal legislation in November brought back the
ability for the USDA to inspect horse slaughter plants, the
Wyoming company got serious about finding it's flagship location.
"We wanted a state that was supportive of
our efforts, and the folks in Missouri are 100% on board with what we're trying
to do and how we're trying to do it," says Sue Wallis, CEO of Unified Equine, as
well as a Wyoming state legislator."Oh,
I think it would be horrible. People would be moving out," says Mountain Grove
resident Danita McCaig.
Many shudder at the idea of horse meat
production in their back yard, but others in the agricultural area are showing
support. "If they got a problem with it, they can go somewhere else, I guess,"
says Nathan Kelly, owner of Wright County Livestock Auction.

Loving couple

The Love Story that Changed History – Richard
and Mildred Loving

“When any society says that I cannot
marry a certain person, that society has cut off a segment off my freedom,”
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., 1958."I am still
not a political person, but I am proud that Richard's and my name is on a court
case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the
family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight seek
in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That's what Loving, and loving,
are all about." Mildred's "Loving for All" statement, 6/12/07
- Source: Freedomtomarry.orgIt seems appropriate on Valentine’s
Day to celebrate the life and marriage of Richard and Mildred Loving. The
Lovings were two people who never set out to change the law, nor were they
activists in any way. They were just two crazy kids in love who wanted to get
married. “We both thought about other people,” Richard Loving said in an
interview with LIFE magazine in 1966, “but we are not doing it just because
somebody had to do it and we wanted to be the ones. We are doing it for
us.”The year was 1958; Eisenhower was midway through his second term in
office, Elvis was in the army, Michael Jackson would be born in August, the
European Economic Community was founded, 14-year-old Bobby Fischer wins the
United States Chess Championship. Artists like Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry,
Bobby Darin, Connie Francis, the Everly Brothers and Ricky Nelson were climbing
the charts. On the Road by Jack Kerouac had been published the year before. In
February Ruth Carol Taylor was the first African American woman hired as a
flight attendant. It was the twilight of the post-World War II era before the
explosion of the Swinging Sixties. On June 2, 1958, Richard Loving (1933
- 1975), who was white, and his part-black, part-Cherokee fiancée Mildred Jeter
(1939 - 2008) travelled from Virginia to Washington, D.C. to be married. It was
a shot-gun wedding, Mildred, 18 years old was pregnant. The young couple had
known each other since she was 11 and he was 18 but it wasn’t until years later
that their friendship turned to romance. No one in Caroline County, VA thought
it was odd. The area was known for friendly relations between the two races,
many people were clearly of mixed race. Ebony Magazine in an article published
in 1967 reported that black “youngsters easily passed for white in neighboring
towns.”Five weeks after their wedding, the newlyweds were in bed in
their house on the morning of July 11, 1958, when the county sheriff and two
deputies, acting on an anonymous tip, burst into their bedroom and shined
flashlights into their eyes. A threatening voice demanded, “Who is this woman
you’re sleeping with?” Mildred replied, “I’m his wife.”Richard then pointed to
the marriage certificate that hung on the bedroom wall. The sheriff replied with
a sneer, “That’s no good here.”The couple was arrested, and after
several nights in jail, they pled guilty to violating the Virginia law called
“The Racial Integrity Act.” The indictment read “cohabiting as man and wife,
against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth.” At the time, interracial
marriage was still illegal in 24 states, including Virginia. The Virginia law
had been on the books since 1662, adopted a year after Maryland enacted the
first statute against interracial marriage. At one time, 38 states had similar
laws against miscegenation. It wasn’t until 1948 that the California Supreme
Court became one of the first to overturn the law in their state. To
avoid a jail sentence, the Lovings’ agreed to leave the state; they could return
to Virginia, but not at the same time, for a period of 25 years. They paid the
court fine of $36.29 each. Living in exile in D.C. with their three children,
the Lovings’ missed their families, friends, and their life in the familiar
surroundings of the Virginia hills. In 1963, Mildred wrote a letter to the then
Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy asking for help. He wrote her back suggesting
she get in touch with the American Civil Liberties

chickens

I feed the chickens and looked for eggs. Sam must have gathered eggs early yesterday cause I got 4 bantam eggs and 3 big eggs.
The wind is blowing hard but it is a warm morning.

water tank and children

Janet and Sissy Berrell and Richie I guess. I am not sure about the boy setting on our old water tank.
In those long gone days we hauled our water in the tank and all children who visited thought this was really great. I had to watch or they would turn on the spout and drain all the water on the ground.
Lutricia is not going to have a funeral for Henry. They are cremating him and no funeral. I think this is a good idea. funerals are so hard on the family.

Henry Berrell dies

Dillard niece 's husband died last night. I first meet Latricia when she was about 17 years old in Sacramento.
Since she move back here she has come to visit me several times and this old grey head man with a beard would come with her. I didn't know this man the Henry Berrell I knew was young, had curly hair and a ready smile. I have no idea where the white haired man came from.

silkies

I have about decided I only have one silkie rooster. His comb is wider than the hens.

22 of feb.

54 Degrees here at 7:12 in the day light.
Sun is shining out my front door.
Tony, my son came by and brought us some beef yesterday. His employer butchers a steer every year for him.
He said they went to Branson to get the beef from the butcher shop. Tony's boss is a woman and she is really good to him.
There was so much meat his freezer wouldn't contain it all so we got the left overs. 26 pounds of hamburger and several packages of roast.
The bantam rooster is calling me.

Silkies are an ancient, Asiatic breed of poultry, most notably known for their fur like feathers. While the structure of a Silkies feather is much like other birds, they lack barbicels between each strand of ‘hair’ on the feathers shaft. These barbicels are tiny, cartilage hooks, that act like Velcro and give a feather its shape. Because these barbicels are not found in Silkie feathers, each hair is allowed to move freely, giving the bird the appearance of having fur. Their ‘fur’ functions the same way that hard feathers function on other birds, and keep the bird warm, and dry. It is commonly rumored that because of the feather structure, Silkies tolerate colder climates better. However this information has not been tested, and cannot be guaranteed. In addition to their unique feathers, the Silkie is also known for its black or purple skin, and 5 toes. The condition of having 5 toes is known as polydactyl, and it is only shared by a few other breeds of poultry. The skin and bones of the Silkie are also very unique, having a dark purple coloring. In Asiatic countries, they are commonly known as ‘black chicken’, and the purple skin and bones are thought to have healing properties for ailments such as arthritis and other painful diseases.Silkies are a very old breed of poultry, and are thought to have originated in China. References to a ‘cat like chicken’ have been found in records of Marco Polos travels through China in the 15th century. Silkies come in a variety of colors, but only 7 are recognized and widely available in the US. The American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association list white, black, blue, buff, gray, partridge, and splash as ‘standard’ colors. Other colors such as Lavender are considered ‘developmental’, and aren’t part of the breed standard. Silkies are also available in a multitude of mixed colors and varieties. The white coloration is the only naturally occurring variation of the Silkie, and all other colors were introduced by man made breeding processes. The Silkie hen is one of the best mothers in the poultry world. In fact, many game bird breeders use them as natural incubators for other birds like pheasants and quail. Hens have been known to sit on clutches of eggs for days, sometimes even dying of dehydration. The size of Silkies varies from males to females, but average weight is approximately 3 to 5 pounds. Silkies are also one of the only true bantam breeds, meaning that they were not bred down from larger birds. They lay a small egg that is only about 2 inches in size, and can vary from white to a cream colored shell.Another unique feature of the Silkie is the large crest of feathers, or ‘top knots’ on their heads.

I just declare any chicken I want as mine. I get two silky eggs a Day so I know I have two hens and think I have more. I know one is a rooster.
I stole another chicken from Sam again this morning she was a red hen and I wanted her to go with my Rhode Island red hens. I have one more I am going to get then I will be finished stealing chickens for awhile.

red hens

Sammy sold his 6 leghorn hens yesterday. No more big white eggs to gather. He got 12 dollars each for them and in my mind that is a lot for a hen.
I claim the red hens and the silkies this morning I went into the bantam house and swiped one of his hens and put into my pen. There is another just like her I will get as soon as I can.
The hens in this pen he can't sell so that means another hen he can't sell.

Tip

velvet sack has all kinds of blogs and I discovered this one this morning. It is about her blind dog. I found it very interesting and suggest she might write a book about her blind dog never the less also telling her that my take on animals were very different than hers.
My father was a farmer and he held the belief if an animal was very sick it needed his help which usually was him putting it out of it's misery since he had no money to spend on vets..
So if my dog went blind or had other major health problems I would dispatch them to the happy hunting ground with speed but then I remembered Tip.
Tip was a black and white collie which we owned for 12 years. He ran a million miles following my sons' on horse back as they grew up and I am sure Tip would have died for my children.
The sons' grew up and left the nest but I still had Tip. He was nearly blind , deaf and stiff in his walk. He spent most of his days sleeping but still I made sure he had food and I have been know to check on Tip as soon as I got home from work before I sat down to rest.
One day I hurried out to the car to go some where in a hurry, I have long forgot where I was in such a fizzle to go but I jumped into my car and began to back it up, then I heard this thump and yelp and Tip crawled out into my view, I was heart sick and since he disappeared from my view I began to search for him. After several hours our neighbor stopped and told me Tip was at his house and seemed to be hurt. I went at once and loaded the poor thing into the back seat of my car. I looked him over and realised he had broken bones and other unknown injuries
I went in the house and got my 22 gun got back in the car and drove down a side road. I got Tip out of the car and Since I had a chain on him he couldn't leave even if he had been able.
He tried to pull away and I said "You might as well stand still I have to do this and I swear that dog under stood me. he braced him self and I shot him between the eyes. It was the hardest thing I ever did and I will always remember Tip. He was a faithful dog and he was my dog

again

I guess I was wrong, I told Fleta I remembered 4 years ago Mike Huckabbe was told to have tied his dog to the top of his car but after doing research I could not find any thing about it so suppose I was wrong.

I watched the Huston funeral to see how the black church people conducted themselves.
I law down and slept several hours and now am awake. it is 12 midnight. I can only sleep for a few hours and then have to get up because of my breathing. I wake up breathing real fast and can't seem to get enough air. I was thinking yesterday I might look into buying a hospital bed because when I am in the hospital I don't have that problem and I am sure it is because I have the head of the bed cranked up.
Fleta had the grand children again yesterday. Son is home so she got the kids again this week end.
my eyes are sore they started itching night before last and i kept rubbing them even tho' I knew better, then did the same yesterday morning when I finally got up and got some warm salt water to wash them with which is what I usually do for sore eyes they were red all around on the lids and below the eyes. sore eyes are a pain.
I might mention I got a Valentine card from Helen. Thank you, sister. Helen said she had decided to get her return ticket from Washington on May 3.n I told her that was my birthday she said she realized that fact.

Life is a hoot

Just got a call from a fellow, he talked slooow and draaagy. he wanted Sam's phone no. he said he wanted to talk to Sammy about our place in ridgedale Mo. I told him that the place belonged to me not Sam.
He said he knew that but I was old and he didn't want to bother me. To make a long story short this fellow has a neighbor who has been in my yard with a 4 wheeler making rut and taring up everything. The caller said this neighbor was a real bad fellow, he had been in prison and was real mean. The caller had called the sheriff and wanted me to call the sheriff also. sure I will I would want this guy mad at me if he as bad as the caller said. My caller said this guy is a real bad guy and I want him gone. I sure want to get mixed up in this, the bad guy might burn my house if I get him mad at me.
I didn't give him Sam's phone no.
I have a neighbor that lives across the road from our place and I know if any thing was wrong they would call me pronto.

saturday

I dreamed all night it seem and I am glad it is day light.

Saturday is here and the working sisters are glad, the rest of us are just glad for them.

43 degrees and misty here, how about where you are?
I saw Winnie was going under the knife again, I am sorry for you dear cousin.

I just can't believe all the talk about birth control going on but I think what has really stirred the pot is for the first time insurance is going to have to pay for the ladies pills and they are not happy about this.

Did you know the insurance company has been paying for Viagra every since it came on the market but not birth control?

I have been doing research on Rick Santrum and he really amazes me, if he is the repub nominee the women in this country better get out the vote and defeat him unless they want to go into slavery.

he says WOMEN should not be allowed to work unless it is finical necessary to support her family.

He thinks birth control should not be allowed even for married people, he says all sex should be for the purpose of procreating and that is all. Jim Bob Duggar is his main supporters but the thing that really stumped me was he says if a woman is raped and finds her self with child she should be forced to bear the child. She should see it as a gift from God.

So come on all repub women get out the vote for Obama! Any women who would vote for Santrum would have to be nuts and I think even his wife would go for Obama. This is Santrum wife's life. She has 7 children, home schools them and waits for the big boy to come home for her to cook his dinner. I bet she enjoys this time when he is running for president. he can't come home as much to get her with child. Some reporters are saying this is Santrum's faith what I want to know is why all his faith is about kicking women in the teeth?

They are burying Whitney Huston today, to show how much I am a fan of pop music I must tell you I didn't know such a person lived until she died if it isn't country I just don't hear it.

message to congress

These men were asked to testify before Congress about a potential ban on coverage of birth control for women. Look long enough at this photo (and think about the fact that these men are being empowered by our Congress to judge us as sluts and sinners and to withhold access to medicine and health care based on their view of us on the Slut Meter) until you are angry enough to do something about it.

new lawn mower

Sammy has a new law mower. he went to get this used lawn mower they had at Lowe's which they guaranteed to be OK.
I didn't think that was a good idea but I told him it was his decision and he was the one had to deal with it not me.
The neighbor took him down there and when they got there the mower wouldn't run., what you know!
So he bought this new one instead it isn't as large as the one he was going to buy but certainly big enough for our yard.
Sammy mows our yard and both neighbors yard when he mows.

chickens

It is nice and warm out even if the sun isn't shinning so I went out and fed the chickens.
I got 6 eggs, I suppose Sammy went too early yesterday and all had not laid their eggs.
I was able to set in the chair and stay out for some time. I enjoy watching the chickens. There are 7 Rhode Island red hens in here and 8 silkies. I try to pick out the silky rooster which is hard to do but I think I have 2 rooster in the silky. I want to keep 2 silky hen just to see how they behave which means I will have to be out there when they catch them or I might end up with 2 silky roosters.
Sammy sold the yellow hens he had in this pen, they were yellow and had a top not. He left one of his hens and got 2 of the silky. he just can't seem to tell the difference. Hopefully he might have sold silky roosters. He says no one at the sale can tell the silky roosters from the silky hens. I can tell now after studying them for months but it is hard to tell the difference.

Oh , yes that feels so good, move just a little to the left please.

Blue people?

You have heard of blue moon of Kentucky? well there are apparently blue people of Kentucky.
Being part Appalachian, Kentuckians are used to inbreeding jokes. However, there
is one joke about Kentucky and inbreeding that's funny because it's true: The
story of the Blue Fugates of Troublesome Creek. The Fugates were an extended
family living in an isolated hollow in Eastern Kentucky ominously named
Troublesome Creek. Most members of the family had "hereditary
methemoglobinemia." This is an enzyme deficiency that causes a person's blood to
run vein blue as opposed to arterial red. Instead of being pink, these people
are tinted blue or purple. The condition is based on a recessive gene; the only
way to acquire it is if both your parents pass down the love. So what were the
odds of clan founder Martin Fugate taking another methemoglobinemia carrier as
his wife? He did, and they settled in Troublesome Creek sometime in the mid 19th
Century. Cousins marrying cousins was commonplace among isolated Appalachians,
so by the time a doctor discovered the Fugates in the 1960s, there were several
blue people living in the hills around Hazard.

Funny Pranks - Computer Scare Prank!

dumplins my way

chicken and dumplings my way, if you roll out dough and cut in strips your dumplings will soak up more broth and taste much better.
Place the dumplings in the broths while the broth is a boiling cook the dumplings until done.
about 3 cups cooked chicken6-8 cups chicken broth 2 cups flour2 Tbs. butter1/2 tsp. baking powder salt to taste (I just shake some in)about a cup of milk, maybe a bit less In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut the butter into the dry ingredients with a fork or pastry blender. Stir in the milk, mixing with a fork until the dough forms a ball.Heavily flour a work surface. You’ll need a rolling pin and something to cut the dumplings with. I like to use a pizza cutter. I also like to use a small spatula to lift the dumplings off the cutting surface.
put the dumplings in the boiling broth and cook until done.

birds

The rain is falling here this morning and the temperature is 43 degrees.
My chicken pens natural attract a large number of birds in the winter. I have tried feeding birds from a feeder but it is a waste of time since they can find an abundance of feed in the chicken pens.
Occasionally I will see a brown house sparrow singing on the TV antenna near my door and I always appreciate her sweet voice.
Out by the electric pole I some times see and hear a woodpecker looking for food.
I see blue jays squawking around the chicken pens . They always seem to be fighting with some bird.
We have a blue jay which likes dog food and can be seen most days in the spring robbing the dog food dish.

Fleta said Clayton saw a large flock of robins and wonder what was going on, the truth is they migrate like most birds and when migrating they set down to feed on their journey north Up here on the hill I usually see a robin or two out my window in February hopping around locking for worms or I suppose they are looking for worms.
The mocking bird is the most promote bird around our house and I think it is because of the wild cherries trees which they feast on in the spring and summer.
We always have the brown sparrows around the chicken pen along with the colorful red birds and the occasional yellow gold finch. Last spring I saw several purple martins flying over going up the hill so I suppose someone has purple martin houses up the hill.
I have a purple martin box that belonged to daddy but it isn't high enough in the air for the purple birds and is a apartment for the black birds and some times the sparrows if they can manage to run the black birds out. I suspect what happens is the black birds lay their eggs in the sparrow's nest and then go on their care free way leaving the sparrows wonders why their children all have such black coats.
