There is a wind blowin' and there will be a weather change no doubt it will turn cold. January is upon us and this is the coldest month of the year for us.
The clouds were rolling when I looked out just now and this photo is a fitting finish to a bad year. unemployment is high people are losing their home and more people are living on our streets than ever before so happy new year.

I never am sure if these birds are pigeon or morning doves when they are up on the wire. My neighbor has pigeons and They fly around here nearly every day but I see two birds on the light wire nearly every morning and I am never sure if it is a pigeon or a mourning dove.

Rosie is dead

Geraldine Hoff Doyle, the inspiration for "Rosie the Riveter," died on Sunday at the age of 86 due to complications from arthritis, the Washington Post reports.
Rosie became the symbol for all the female workers who worked in the war effort.
I am not 100% sure but I think our aunt Betty was one of the Rosie the Riveter crowd while uncle Chuck was in the service and she lived on the west coast.

When Emma gave me this rooster she said he didn't crow but I didn't believe her.He was mature enough to mate so I was sure he would crow but He didn't crow. This morning I was setting here at daybreak on the computer and low and behold he crowed 3 times.
It is supposed to be 60 degrees today but the wind is really blowing so I wonder about that.

Tucker Carlson, filling in for Sean Hannity on Fox News last night, picked up the issue of President Barack Obama’s call to Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, during which the president thanked Lurie for giving Michael Vick a second chance.

The call had been a hot topic on Fox throughout what was a pretty slow news day, but Carlson’s take took things to a new level.

I’m Christian. I’ve made mistakes. I believe fervently in second chances. Michael Vick killed dogs in a heartless and cruel way. I think, firstly, he should have been executed for that. The idea the president of the United States would be getting behind someone who murdered dogs is beyond the pale.

This is beyond anything I have heard from the animals rights people. First Micheal Vicks should not have done what he did with dogs fight mainly because it was against the law.and I am sure he didn't need the money but to say a human being should be put to death for killing a dog is just stupid and all thinking people know that what Carlson was really doing was jabbing at Obama for calling the fellow who hired Vicks back to play ball.
The truth is Obama could have avoided that phone call if he was using his head but even if he called it still is beyond the pale to say Vick's should have been executed for the mess.

I HAVE BEEN MAKING BISCUITS THIS MORNING AND HAVE A RECEIPT FOR BISCUITS I MADE UP THIS MORNING.
take a bowl dump some self rising flour into the bowl about what you would use for your usual biscuits. If you don't bake biscuits try 4 cups make a well and dump in 7 ounces vegetable french dressing stir if more flour needed add mix well turn out on flour board and pat out cut into biscuits and bake until brown. serve with fried sausage.
My children buy dips and eat with potato chips. I don't eat chip often and I never eat their dips cause they just pack on the pounds I think but I found a use for their dips that get lost in the refrigerator.
When daughter ask what is different about this biscuit say, I don't know.
I looked on line most receipts call for 2 and 1/2 cups flour. I forgot to say I added enough water to make a good dough. since I never measure any thing you are on your own.

Rain and 45 degrees. I feed the chickens old bread, they just love white bread but the guineas yelled where is the corn. The guineas wont eat bread. Guineas are nothing like chickens. Guineas all so hate rain with a passion.

I got a Christmas card yesterday from the sunnygal in California. I woke when daughter came home last night and heard her talking to SAM she said Mom got a Christmas card from someone in California and I don't know who it is! Oh, is nice to know something they don't I smiled as I went back to sleep. Children reach a certain age and they think they know it all this proves they don't!
I had a good laugh this morning while reading the news, seems Chris Matthews, MSNBC news the old thrill running up his leg when he sees OBAMA ask why doesn't Obama just release his real birth certificate. From what I have read the law in Hawaii says he can't. what he has is all he can take with him. he can view the original but that is all. The governor who knew Obama's parent is trying to find a way to release the original.
I think the people whom are pushing the Birthers movement really are trying to find a way for Schwarzenegger to be president some day. He wants to be president and no doubt the birthers would want him too be the man after all he isn't a Girly-man. remember when he called some men Girly-men.

Flea's little granddaughter was in the box and she said she was a present. Yes she is just the best present I ever saw.
Flet final posted photos of the little kids which I had been waiting for 36 hours. She said the little ones were not much trouble with the big kids there so why did it take her so long to post photos of Sunday I ask you? She probably has been sleeping. I called last evening and talked to George he said she was at wal-marts. I was glad I thought maybe Emma will get her gifts now! I could tell by the photos Christmas day that Emma was not happy about getting a card from grandma saying we will shop later.
Really Fleta, a 11 year old is still young enough to look forward to bright colored boxes with secrets and to enjoy the unwrapping of the gift. Sometime I don't know where your brain is.
The photo of the girl pulling her socks up is Emma, I can see the mad on her face and she had a right to be pissed!

I can't decide whether we had a light snow or a heavy frost but if it is snow it is the kind I like no covering and will melt when we see the sun. It is 13 degrees and no wind this morning. We did have a light snow yesterday. There was just enough of it that I could tell it was snow.
Jimmy Carter has been waging war for 24 years trying to wipe out a worm that infests the poor people of this world. I had never heard of such a worm. It is named the guinea worm and people become infected by drinking water that contain the larva. The worm travels down the host's leg and come out on the bottom of the foot, one inch a day and the worm is 3 foot long. They wrap the worm around a stick as it makes it exit. Terrible to think about and the report says the person can not walk while the worm is in the leg. What pain and misery and the way to prevent this horrible worm is to strain the drinking water so education is what is needed.
Jimmy says he hopes to wipe out this infection of the poor in his life time. He has one area to go the Sudan in Africa and his war against the guinea worm will be a success. Jimmy is 86 years old and he has been a credit to the human race since he left the white house.

wrong numbers

1.Just in the past couple of weeks, I've started receiving lots of calls on my cell phone for a Richard *** from bill collectors, etc. I keep telling them they have the wrong number and I don't even know anyone named Richard anything, but they keep calling. The other day I had a voice mail from the OK DHS stating it was time for him to change some kind of card to keep receiving money. I called that number back and tried to explain the situation. I ended up getting three other numbers to call, and no one ever even tried to find him and correct the problem or get my number off their calling list! I almost think he's deliberately giving all these people a wrong number, but boy is he going to be mad when his welfare gets cut off, lol.


2.I got hundreds of calls from bill collectors. Asking "Can I speak to **** ?" I'd tell them they had a wrong number, they'd ask "do you know ****?" Crazy. The same people kept calling over and over, so after a while, I got to where I'd tell them, yes, hold on a minute, I'll get him. then I'd lay down the phone, and if I remembered, every couple minutes I'd yell out, just a minute, he's coming!
3.If you have a two year old, just hand the phone to them. If you don't have a two-year old, act like one. Ask the telemarketer or agent what color they like, and if they have a kitty kat, and if their mommy has toilet trained them yet.
4.I work in a federal office.

Believe it or not, we get calls asking for ABC now and again. He hasn't worked there for years. I wouldn't be surprised if the calls are from a parole officer etc.

We try to be polite and inform callers they have reached incorrect number and this is a business phone.

That just won't stop some of them. My staff now says "pls hold one moment" then they transfer the call to me.

"This is Supervisor W... how may I help you?"

"I need to speak to ABC"

"What is your social security number?"

"What?"

"You are calling a federal office and I must make a log of all calls. I already see your phone number, what is your social security number? I must submit my phone log to security at the end of each work day"

I usually don't get all the way through my little speech before I hear "click". Then it stops for a while before it starts up again.
5.Yeah, you can tell them to stop calling you, even if you're the one who got turned in to a collection agency (for whatever reason).

Had one collection agency call me re: a bill that I did NOT owe to AT&T. (Golly, I dislike those jerks...) Anyway, when I told the collector that the bill was not valid and I was not going to pay it, he said, "Well, you realize we'll keep calling, don't you?"

I replied, "You realize that if I tell you to stop calling me, I know that you have to stop calling me, don't you?"

He stammered something, and I said, "Now. I'm telling you that I am NOT paying that bill because I do NOT owe them any money, AND I am telling YOU to stop calling me. Did that come through clearly?"

I got a "Yes, ma'am" and I hung up.

I felt so empowered...
6.For those of you getting calls from individuals who've dialed the wrong number repeatedly, my parents had that situation for years. An older lady called on a regular basis asking for Ruth (if my mom answered) or Elmo (if my dad answered). They were always nice to her, as she was to them. Turned out, she was forgetting to dial the area code for the number she wanted. Over the years, they had lots of nice conversations with her.

I've gotten into conversations with wrong numbers before. So has my mother.

My mother can talk a LONG time on the phone. Usually, the only people who call her are various relatives. I can generally figure out who she's talking to just listening to her end of the conversation.

But one day I couldn't figure out WHO she was talking to. She was talking to someone for at least a couple of hours. Whoever it was, they were having a very lively conversation about all kinds of stuff.

When she FINALLY hung up the phone, I said, "Who was that?".

She said, "I don't know. It was a wrong number".

Over at Donna's blog we were talking about rising yeast dough and she said on her "OLD" gas stove you could rise your bread with the pilot light, don't the new gas stoves have a pilot light I ask with my 1960's mind set? see we are going to get a new gas stove soon and I am thinking what on earth does she mean or has she gone electric in her new trailer? here is what I learned..

Patsy, in answer to your question about stoves: New gas stoves no longer have pilot lights; they start electronically. During a power outage we can light the top burners with a match, but the oven cannot be lit when the power is out, even with a match. Hang onto the stove you have. I wish I had kept my old one! Patsy thought, who uh thunk it! as for not getting a new stove that is out ours is wore out and so dirty i can't stand it in longer. Sammy cooks pretty good but he fries every thing and doesn't know to turn the heat down and has so much grease baked on the stove the sight of it makes me sick. In the past I would break down the top and throw the parts into my old wood stove but we don't heat with wood so that is not possible.
Before someone suggest Ajax and green pads I have attempted that several times.

After my visit with Donna I went on the whorl wind to see velvet down Louisiana way. Velvet has two old Big dogs she lives with and velvet loves her dogs more than I see as a option but it's her life after all. Well she said she was getting a new PUPPY cause her dogs were getting old and did I mention one is blind? It is A Goldendoodle and will weigh about 50 pounds! Oh yeah she is driving to Texas to get this bundle of Joy. A goldendoodle is a cross of a poodle and a golden retriever that is a bird dog folks.
She going to be sorry This is what I said to her, we have a pup here, Sammy has one he is 7 months old and I tell you are going to be sorry and you old dogs are going to pack up and leave home. Sam's pup gathers all the stuff he can find in the neighborhood and bring the stuff to the front porch step. then I have to pick the crap up and take it to the trash can.

I know Velvet will say I wont leave him out side to roam the neighborhood, she will before he is there long. Her old blind dog will learn to open the door and say come on puppy lets go play then SLAM the door as soon as puppy is out side.

earthquake

10:49 there was a 2.8 an earthquake in Oklahoma on December 24. Told you so Helen. I told her I felt an earthquake, my desk shook and my monitor shook. she said i was crazy. When I feel a tremor I know it because of living in California.

New blog to me

I have found a new blog to me. She says she lives in LOWER Arkansas and since I like to read about people in new places I have been reading her post, past post and they are funny. Since this is Christmas and I know everyone else is busy opening presents and wont have time today tomorrow you can jump down to lower Arkansas and enjoy some great reading.
Here is one I stole from her. I figured I might as well since she stole it from the Arkansas Democrat- Gazette.

At that time I got within 10 miles as to where she was and I would tell you where she is actually but I have forgot where she is except it is up towards KC.
Her blog at the time was an AOL blog and when they drooped their blogs she moved over to my blogger area. I also read a blog at that time of a lady who lived higher on the map. I can't remember her blog name but she took great photos and I found her link on Donna's page. I bet Donna remembers her. She was a member of what I call the upper-crust, her husband had a good paying job and she had excess to the finer things in life including all the equipment you would want to take pictures. I stole a few of those. I have lost her completely if she still blogs but I have hung on to Donna. Pay her a visit you will like her.
Some things I know about Donna..
She has owned several dogs in the time I have been visiting her.
She is a farmers wife that has to work in town to live on the farm.
She did live in a farm house but now lives in a trailer.
She has a Jersey cow, which makes me jealous.
She rides a motor cycle with her hubby.
She makes egg noodles like mine.
She did ride a horse for pleasure but Doesn't talk as much about horses now.
She has a husband named Cliff and he had some heart problems a few years ago so she has changed the way she cooks and altered her life to help him heal.

Pies

I made 2 pies this morning, The phone rang by the time I got there she was gone I suppose it was Helen. , I made my crust it looked like I made a good crust, I never measure so some time it is good some times it would knock a bull down.
I made a raisin pie and intended to make peach pie. I bought canned pie filling at the dollar store for a dollar. I use two cans cause one can is skimpy. I got the crust ready dumped in one can then the other but the second can was apple so I have no idea how it will taste. Pumpkin pies will be cooked later. I have best choice crust for the pumpkin. I need 4 and so i bought the crust. Oh yeah I cook my raisins with sugar and water with flour to make the thicken. I put to much water so I have a raisin pie with a lot of thicken. reminds me of days of mama. she always had to skimp to make dinner. The good news is I have enough raisin stuff for another pie.

Shep Smith does it again

Shep Smith has been my hero every since he stood on the inter state in new Orleans for 5 days alone and called on the united States government to do something for the people dying in the flood after Kernia and now he has moved to the mark again calling out the republicans in congress because they refused to pass the health bill for the 911 responders in New York....Except for maybe Jon Stewart, no one else has been out ahead of the 9/11 First-Responders Bill story as Fox News Shepard Smith. Last Friday, after The Daily Show dedicated most of the previous night’s program to the oddly controversial bill, Smith piled on, asking how congressional members who have held up the bill providing health care to emergency relief workers on 9/11 “sleep at night.” Yesterday he called out ever single GOP lawmaker by name who turned down a request to join him on his show. Today? It was Senator Tom Coburn who drew Shep’s ire.

Tom Coburn got off his duff and helped pass the bill after Shep showed his photo and told what a scum this man was. We need more newsmen like Shep Smith.

TSA waged a Holy war at a airport in Louisiana over a frozen chicken stuffed with crayfish and a hunter head lamp. The terminal was evacuated while the package was examined.

The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty (NLCHP) and the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) released a report today, Homes Not Handcuffs, tracking a growing trend in U.S. cities - the criminalization of homelessness. The report, available here, focuses on specific city measures from 2007 and 2008 that have targeted homeless persons, such as laws that make it illegal to sleep, eat, or sit in public spaces. The report includes information about 273 cities nationwide.
While more cities are craching down on homeless people living in public spaces, the housing and homelessness crisis in the United States has worsened over the past two years, particularly due to the current economic and foreclosure crises. According to a report released last week by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 41.8% of the homeless population was unsheltered between January 2007 and January 2008. Most cities do not have adequate shelter space or affordable housing to meet the need, leaving many homeless persons with no choice but to live in public spaces.



"Criminalizing homelessness is not only an inhumane way of approaching people who are poor and vulnerable, but is counterproductive in dealing with the problem of homelessness," said Tulin Ozdeger, NLCHP Civil Rights Program Director. "It costs more to jail a person than it does to provide permanent supportive housing."

What are people going to do be carried off by the rats? This government has gone bonkers. as of June 2011 you will not be able to buy these products over the counter. I suppose you will have to call an exterminator and if you can't afford that just learn to live with them. traps are still an option but probably will be out law as inhumane.

I had shingles a few years ago so maybe my sisters will come down with them some day . I found this on the net and thought it might be worth a try if any of you get the shingles. It was the most terrible thing I have ever went through and so sisters read this and remember... husband had shingles and doctor told him to get some starter fluid for cars and spray it on there. Said the ether would stop it and it should go away quickly, told him he could write him the prescription for antiviral thats like $200( found out today his insurance doesnt go into effect until Jan 2011... grrr....) but the prescription would take a couple weeks and wouldnt make a difference really, that the ether would react faster.

The barmy birds have had their normal drab feathers transformed into neon colours using harmless food dyes.
The turkeys are part of the Gozzi Turkey Farm Christmas celebrations in Guilford, Connecticut, and are dyed using a 'secret' technique.
Gozzi Turkey Farms has been dying the turkeys for about 50 years.
They sell fresh turkeys for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and has become a local attraction

cats and dogs

the neighbor is gone again I am going to have to feed cats again. I spilled some chicken pellets yesterday and the cats are eating them . I get disgusted with my neighbors when they don't care for their animals.

not long ago my neighbor's wife told SAM that these weren't their cats. sure! My neighbor above me have dogs and they went for a while this summer and didn't feed them. 9 dogs no feed some died and then they started feeding them but they never have watered them, all summer they drink from my containers that I kept full of water out side the chicken pens now I carry water in a bucket so no water setting around now. They still don't water their dogs.

I moved Donnie's squirrel feed and wired it to the chicken pen hoping that the grey squirrel who came looking for food from across the road would see it and come calling.

I took a plastic 1/2 gallon jug and made me a bird feed , it is on the chicken pen cause that is where I see all the birds in the winter. I put the jug in a orange sack after cutting a hole and I added the spoon as a perch.

There were no guineas out this morning. I guess they couldn't find a hole in the covering of the pen last night.

back in the pen

I got everybody back into the pen and I tied the chicken wire on the top some more. I found out how they get out, of the 7 if some get seperated from the other 5 they go crazy . They fly against the pen and at the top so that is how they get out and they they can't figure how to get back in the pen.

famous last words

I went to feed and two guineas were out of the pen. I tried and tried to drive them back to no Advil. I guess they will go in when they get hungry. They are in the walnut tree now.

shades of green

All the easter eggers are laying shades of green eggs. The blue egg layer has not laid a egg of late but on a happier not I am getting a dozen greenish eggs every 3 days.

2 flocks into one

I turned out the guineas to graze a while and I had wanted to combine the two flocks so I worked and finally got the 7 older guineas in the chicken pen so I hope the 2 flocks were blend into one by April.
This should be the last day the guineas will be in the walnut trees until spring.
