Neighbors

Just as I finished my a neighbor who lives higher on the hill, she is a Mexican emingrant, came down the hill and brought me a large bag of tamales. The Mexican women are great cooks and their food is so good. I suppose you know what I had for supper The people from Mexico have moved to our area to work in the poultry processing plant , I have made a effort to get to know them because I am interested in people and places that I could not know other wise. I have found the Mexican people to be hard working, and people who try to raise their children to be good children. This is rare in this day and time.

Here in Arizona we have many Illegal immigrants that are Mexican. Many of them stand on a street corner each morning and hope someone will drive up and give them a “Job for a day.” These jobs are usually for manual labor. I have never seen a woman standing on the corner for a job it is only men, or young men maybe 14 years old. A truck will drive up to the corner and maybe 20 Hispanics will pile in. The person driving the truck will get out and unload any workers he does not want. He will usually keep any worker that speaks English. Most of them do not speak any English, or at least they do not seem to be able to speak fluent English. They will drive off to the job site and work until the job is done sometimes only getting paid a few dollars for a full days work. We have a boom of new housing and many of the Hispanics are picked up to do yard work, digging, laying sod, planting trees and such things. It is pretty hard work when it is 120 degrees outside.

I deleted my post as it sounded
derogitory. I think the Mexicans
are nice, family folk. Much better
than a lot of the Americans I have
in public school. We have jobs that our citizens don't even want, but we gripe if someone wants to come and take one of them. And we gripe even more if the companies send the jobs to where the workers want them. We are a global economy now and we might as well accept it. Once our neighbors lived, near us...now they are India and China and yes, Mexico.
