The sisters never knew Sarah Powell. She is one of those special relatives we found in our family tree. She was born in the time of the Civil War in Missouri, where you had to hide just to live. She had two children, never married, and toiled her life away trying to provide for herself and her kids. You can tell she has worked hard. She holds a stick to help her stand. Old Sister said the "bump" in her dress was her little sack of money--who knows. She touched my heart. The Sisters did not find rich, famous folks in our tree. We found heros of the simple type. This is where we get our genes!!! We carry them with pride. I are proud to be kin to Old Sarah.
Old Sister knows this blog stuff. I do not so bare with me as I learn! But I am finding it to be a lot of fun. Old Sister, it is like a little visit with you everyday.
Get that Black snake. Hope he crawls off today and coils up with a last stomache.
The only good thing about having connections to famous people is that it's easier to find things written about them. Most of my ancestors were simple people, too, and I'd give anything to know more about their lives. The census records have helped me the most to uncover their stories, but there's so much more that I wish I knew.
