old barns in this style are fast becoming a thing of the past in our area.When I was a girl ever farm had a barn built on this style farmer milk his heard of cows here and stored his winter hay, usually they had stalls for their team of horses to be fed and bedded down for the night. Our barn also provided for a place for our few chickens to lay their eggs and seek shelter for the night. I have spend many hours searching for the hidden hen nest under the horse stalls, in the summer I was always afraid that when I reached back into some dark place for eggs I would encounter a black snake finished off his supper.
