Pokeberries

The mocking bird eat these berries and I had a friend when I was a child who ate them with no ill effects but daddy told me they were poison and tho I am 68 years old I have never tasted a pokeberry. Daddy word is still law to me! Posted by Picasa

These colors on this plant are so beautiful. Isn't this used to dye cloth and other fibers?

We used them for ink. We wrote on rocks with the poke berries..we usually ended up with the stains all over us...and in trouble.

Sweet-sister, we used them for ink too. We'd take the leaves and sew them together with pine straw and make hats or belts that would always break as soon as you put them on.

Oh, Dot and SS3, you point out the wonderful inventiveness of children.
