The setting Hens

I went in the laying hens pen and discovered that I have 7 setting hens and one very unhappy rooster. I don't expect I will have much success with a hatch since they are fighting over two clutches of eggs but truth is I am tired of setting eggs.
My bother called yesterday and said do you still have a light on your banties for heat. Richard always was a smart aleck.
The cucumbers and tomatoes are doing fine but all my squash vines are gone the dreaded squash bug got them. I am having to make my self go out and gather the produce ever morning and water. I have lost interest because it is so hot and I just can't stand the heat but if I can keep on with the work I will be glad in September that I did.
My daughter took tomatoes and cucumbers to work and gave them away yesterday. She said everyone said if you get any more "remember me." I am sure she told them how to grow them.
Last year all I grew was some tomato plants. I grew them in two old truck tires in the yard. When I brought in the first ripe ones she said where did you get them?
They had been growing right under her nose and she had not noticed. My daughter is not a gardener.

Don't lose heart with the garden, you have achieved so much with your vegetables - I know how you feel though, as I too have had lots of plants lost to pests.
