Because cockfighting is illegal in many countries, the Old English game have little use and are not kept by many people. Their aggressive nature means that most backyard chicken keepers are put off.Today the breeds are used at Poultry Exhibitions and breeders try to develop stock that will win prizes. Exhibition bred cocks can fetch amounts over US$ 600. Breeders aim to preserve the present strains of this species, as many have already died out.

How fascinating..I so enjoyed reading about the different types of chickens and roosters! My mom was born and raised on a farm and I love to hear her stories about her having to take care of the chickens and pigs:-) There were 16 of them and they each had certain animals they had to take care of. Hugs xox
I was raised on a farm with chicken houses, as well as pigs and goats. It was a good way to grow up, learning to take care of the animals, helping my parents gather and grade the eggs. I never thought to ask what kind of chickens we raised since I tried to give them names of my own.
