Goldenrod are one of the last big flower available each year. There are numerous species of goldenrods all with a similiar look, most people know them collectively as Goldenrods. All Goldenrods are perennials with large clusters of small yellow flowers that appear from the end of summer until frost. The leaves of goldenrods are simple, lance or egg shaped and usually have a toothed margin. They are common in pastures under heavy grazing pressure. The only wildlife value of Goldenrods is for insects. Deer and even cows avoid goldenrod.

But they do make a great subject for a glorious photo, Patsy! I love those beautiful golden tones, but I think I'll stay away from them in person!
Took the words right out of my mouth sunflower! Goldenrod may serve no useful purpose, but its very beautiful! Lovely picture Patsy.

These flowers dry quite well and can make a wonderful everlasting.
Goldenrod is usually seen as weeds here and no one grows them in their garden..you only see them along ditches or in fields usually. I had no idea they were the state flower of KY!!!!
