Words of my childhood

Many of the words and saying that I grew up with have fell into disuse, here are a few'
casein. ..Tire for a car. green as grass..Uneducated
poke..A sack or bag. Slower than molasses....Real slow.
snakedoctor...Dragon fly. Pure T fit...Hysterical.
2 sheets to the wind..Drunk. Gag a maggot.. Something that makes you sick to your stomach.
tougher than a pine knot.. Very tough. .. That dog don't hunt... Not true
over yonder ... A long distance. Pump knot..Swelling on head from a accident.
jail bate.. Under age girl. High horse....High opinion of self.
nerve rackin. ..something making you nervious. turtle hull... Trunk of a car.
heel of bread... End pieces of a loaf of bread when sliced.... Couldn't hit the broad side of the barn....Poor shot.
ant got sense god gave a goose....Stupid.
bought a pig in a poke... Made a bad purchase . Fuller than a tick...Ate enough
have baked....Not to bright.
conniption fit...Hysteria.... Lot of grit. .. Courage. ... High fultin.... Putting on airs.
These are just a few that I remember, no doubt I have forgot many.

when pigs fly...it's not going to happen.

worthless as tits on a boar hog....not of any use.

sick n tired...fed up.

well that will cut his water off....meaning it would put an end to something.

another country heard from... said when a young baby yells.....I have no idea where that one came from.

and my Mother's personal favorite..."He would not be satisfied if he was hung with a new rope!"...Meaning nothing would please him but I really never understood the analogy of that one!

It seems like animals figured in a lot of these sayings. For instance, when I was knee high to a grasshopper, I used to wonder what it meant when the grown-ups said someone lived high on the hog.

What a great list, Patsy, and I enjoyed the additional phrases from Helen. I'll be thinking about these all day long.
