Don't count Your chickens, read and weep.

They say don't count your chickens before they hatch and I have found that to be true but I know now don't count on raising 116 chicks. I have been counting chicks this morning and I can only see 9 Rhode Island Bantams and all to gather the best I can count is about 60 chicks.
I guess they got out and the cats carried them off. If we have 60 and half were pullets that would really cut the ones that Betty gets back unless she wants roosters.
If I have 9 Rhode Island reds that would mean 4 pullets. 2 for Betty and 2 for me. I want all the feather legged chicks so Betty should be able to get 15 pullets out of the clean legged bunch. So sister will get 15 pullets and 2 roosters if she is fortunate.
I got into the pen and crawled around and put boards and vinyl siding under all the boards so maybe I stop them from escaping.Oh well that life I guess unless some die now maybe Betty will get her 15 pullets and 2 roosters. One thing to say is they all look healthy.

Oh dear, what a shame you've lost so many already...I guess it is hard to keep them all in one place! Hopefully they will not find any other way of escaping...the cats are gonna get fat!

I read and wept, just as you said. Sad to think more than half are gone. Are there just enough now for the two of you, you and Sister Three?

P.S. Patsy, You asked if I took the photo of the fly on the flower and made up a story about it. Nope. In fact, I didn't even see that fly on the flower until I pulled up the photo on the computer. Surprised me. But I do know they collect pollen on their little feet and land all over the place, thus pollinating.

Patsy, I feel honored to get them. I really want one rhode island red hen if you have one...they sounded so neat. Yes, you get the ones with the feathered legs. sis 3
