Reading
I have been reading Jeffery Archer's book "as the crow flies" . The book is set in England at the start of WW1. He mentions a organization that I had never known of before reading this book.
The White Feather , this organization took the white feather as their symbol and the white feather came to mean cowards.
Once war broke out the situation at home became awful, because people did not like to see men or lads of army age walking about in civilian clothing, or not in uniform of some sort, especially in a military town like Woolwich. Women were the worst. They would come up to you in the street and give you a white feather, or stick it in the lapel of your coat. A white feather is the sign of cowardice, so they meant you were a coward and that you should be in the army doing your bit for king and country.
This is a interesting bit of history.
On another note when I went to feed the chicks this morning I opened the door to the chicks pen and after feeding I sat and watched them thro' the dood. The door opens from the top.
I have one chick that I am sure is a rooster and I believe it is a full blood Old English Game, well as I sat there the fool flew out of the pen. I almost didn't catch it. around and around the pens I went finally my dog foxy came and started on the chase also. I thought she will kill it but it's cat food if I don't catch it. She ran it up into a roll of wire and I was able to get it . Betty still has a rooster.
Foxy doesn't need a white feather in her lapel!
