The silkies chicks were here at my post office at 6:30 am and I have got them set up. Two were dead. I had ordered 20 and they sent 23. so we have 21 left but I expect we will lose some they don't look very frisky.
The silkies chicken has black skin and the Chinese think they are a delicity but I don't see much futcher for them. I hope son is able to raise at least 5 pullets and that will give him a start. I have read that some of these silkies only lay about 7 eggs and then go broody!

You don't have to worry about me stealing these in the night...but those Rhode Island Reds ...are tempting me.
I am only getting one or two eggs a day now. I have stopped giving my eggs even to strangers. Just have a dozen in the frig whereas before I would have 6 dozen adn anyone who came by I tried to con them into some fresh eggs.
I have 2 silky hens "Bonnie & Clyde" and Bonnie seems to go broody at a drop of a hat and Clyde follows a few days later. If not hatching chickens, they are sitting on a clutch of duck eggs:)
I recently tried to make a soup with silkie chicken I bought in Chinatown, but the effort was a complete disaster. I much prefer the look of your silkies.
