Wild chickens

A few years ago a acquaintance of my husband came by the house while I was at work and told my husband they had maybe 50 hens that were running lose at their place.
He said we are tired of these chickens and we will sell you all of them for 20 dollars. Husband said OK.
We were to go on Saturday and catch the chickens. I figured we could get enough chickens that we could keep some and eat the others. in the mean time another friend came by and husband told him what a good deal he had made. The friend oh no! that guy has pulled this stunt on everyone in the country. His chickens are wild and most people have been able to catch 4 or 5 at the most. That means you end up paying about 5 dollars a chicken . The top price for chickens at that time was about 50 cents.
I told the friend maybe someone needs to teach this guy a lesson so I called him on the phone and told him we would be over Saturday and get the chickens. he had said how he really wanted to get rid of all the birds, he was sick of their mess.
I told him I had a 17 years old son who was a crack shot with a 22 rifle and since he really wanted to eliminate the flock, what we couldn't catch my son would shot them out of the trees.
We had no intention of shooting the chickens, the price of the bullets would have soon cost more than the 20 dollars we were to pay for the chickens.
When we arrived at his home that Saturday his wife meet us at the car and said that they had decided that it really was not right to shot the chickens so for us to catch what we could and leave the rest and there would be no cost.
My four children were very active in those days and I told them to catch every chicken they could. We brought home 24 chickens at no cost and all of our neighbors enjoyed a good laugh at the shyster.

patsy, this reminds me of the story of our Grandma Betty Powell and those collecting chickens for the Lord!

Notice this was someone Dillard hooked up with.

Good thing that was years ago. Now, Kel and Tone would want you to go climb the tree, Patsy.

Patsy, that is the funniest story!

Hey did you hear about the Alabama hog? It was actually a farm raised hog named Fred instead of a wild hog. lol

Patsy I loved the story. I could just see everyone chasing after the chickens.

Leave it up to you Pat. No one will likely be successful at putting one over on you. I LOVE your spirit.
