people On the net

You meet the most interesting people on the net. There lives in Alabama a Lawyer that loves chickens and I came across him on the forum, "the coop".
Chris life and mine are poles a part but we both like chickens. Chris traveled to North Carolina to attend a poultry convention and when he returned he sent me this book.
The title is a "a pocketful of poultry. This is a scan of the first page. This has photos of and descriptions of chicken, turkeys , ducks and geese. I will enjoy reading this handy book. There are chickens that I am not familary with and after reading on the net for 4 years I though I had found them all For instance Have you heard Of Iowa Blues? I hadn't but this book has a photo and history of the breed.
Iowa Blue: Gray penciled pattern, pale brown eggs, single comb. Please note that these are not a blue chicken. Developed near Decorah, Iowa in the early 1900's. The breed was in desperate need of new blood and I have been working for the past few years to introduce new blood. There is still a slight possibility of an off-type bird. Chick color will range from a warm cocoa brown to black to an occasional mottled one. This breed is a somewhat seasonal layer. They go in spurts. When not broody, we get lots of chicks and then all of a sudden they go broody and we get nothing. This breed is not yet listed in the APA Standard. They do not have yellow legs. They make a nice breed for someone who wants a good forager which will set on eggs. INFORMATION FROM SANDHILL CRANE HATCHERY SITE.

I think you'll have to get an Iowa Blue or two for your henhouse next year.

I'm glad you are enjoying your book. I always call you my Coop buddy. I would love to have some of those breeds. I wish I didn't live in the city and had a big farm with some acreage. I'd quit being a lawyer and just raise chickens. Sorry I have been so out of the loop Patsy. I had a jury trial today that was just nasty. People and this world are just mean. One witness they brought it against my client threatened me if he ever got out of prison (he was shackled head to toe; I told my office it reminded me of "Silence of the Lambs," all chained up to keep them from killing me -- hope that man never gets out. I got called every name in the book. I kept a straight face. The jury came back in our favor unanimous in just thirty minutes (as I asked them to do) but it was past 6:00 p.m. when I was finally able to leave the courthouse. You take care, CHRIS
