Radio

When I was young radio was the family entertainment center. WE listened to KWTO in Springfield Mo. There were local talent that was on the radio singing popular hit songs.
Slim Wilson , Junior Hallworth and Aunt Martha sang and played music for us everyday. Hymns were sung and we got much of our love from hymns from the radio.
The news and the weather forecaster was a important program at 4:30 everyday. C.C. Wilford told us if our tomorrows was going to be sunny, stormy or mild. He was right most of the time.
George Earl told us the local and national news. There was a time in the 50's when we could hear the Carter family sing and play lead by mother May bell. June Carter would tell us clean funny things that made us laugh.
On the radio we listened to LUM AND ABNER AND THE JOT EM DOWN STORE. The were located at Pine Ridge Ar. and featured a host of characters all coming from these two men. You were limited only by your imagine while listening to your radio. I believe that the radio was more entertaining than televising ever has been and at this time on our cable you get 30 stations of trash and very little else Oh for the days of FIBBER MCGEE AND MOLLY, BOB HOPE and all those other wonderful radio shows a bare foot girl in the Ozarks listened and dreamed about.

Patsy, I absolutely agree with you about the joy of radio as compared to television. I have XM radio and often listen to the old Fibber McGee and Molly and The Lone Ranger shows. They're still great.
