Setting Hens

The neighbor boys caught my October chick and her mama, yes she is a female, remember the hen had 3 chicks and apparently she wasn't a very good mama because 2 died. I put the chick and mama in the main pen because the Jap. hen will start hatching this after noon or in the morning and as soon as I can I must move her or her chicks will be in danger from the other hens.
I have two Rhode Island red bantams that have laid eggs out of the seven I raised from the hatchery buy, the cat got the rest except one pullet that I gave sister.
Sister thinks she wants a flock of these red chickens but of the two that started laying both only layed eggs every other day for a month and then started setting.I don't think sister is going to like this development at all.
These chicks set too much even for me and sister says she doesn't want hens that set. I think next spring sister is going to be knee deep in setting hen considering she has about 18 pullets she got from me. The fact is I think she probably has some setting now and doesn't know it because of the same age pullets I have had 4 setting in the last month.
I have never had setting hens in December before so next spring should be a busy season for chicks.
There is no ice on the trees this morning so I suppose the Ice storm has passed us by.
I am getting about 6 or 7 eggs a day .
