babies and mamas

I only got 4 chicks with the new hatch so I have 8 babies and two hens in the brooder pen now. I think they are so cute all black and the white pekin hens. I am really up the creek trying to decide how I am going to keep all my female chicks and the red sex links chicks.I talked to son and he said he could take the fencing I bought this winter and build me another pen and I think that is what I will do.
I was going to sell the pekin hens but these two are such good mothers I may not be able to part with them.
I had an adventure yesterday and this morning.
I caught the black banty pullet and put her in the main pen . She got out because she was so small. I caught her again and worked on my fence putting siding around the bottom to keep her in.
This morning while was on the computer I heard a noise and looked out the window and there she was on the porch with the neighbors dogs trying to get her. I opened the door and she took off for parts unknown so I figured she was breakfast for the dogs.
I had left the door up on the pen where she was raised hoping the two rooster would go bye bye. They were not about to pack and leave.
When I went out to feed there was my pullet back with her two brothers and I put the lid down. Now I am right back where I started yesterday. maybe she will grow and I can move her later.
I just can't seem to part with any of my birds. I don't name my chickens but I think I will name her" miracle" because she lived and escaped being dog breakfast.

You should name one of the chicks Obama...black baby of a little white Momma.

Sister is right - one of those babies deserves that fine name.

And the one you blogged about needs to earn the name of Miracle, for sure. That's a wonderful story - much better than the alternative.
