rain, rain

This weather is unbelievable, rained all day yesterday and at 8 o'clock it is fog and very damp the temperature at 8'clock is 55 degrees.
With a day of no sun I get very depressed. I tell my self this is stupid but it still happens.
Yesterday for want of anything better to do I searched the net for news and to see how the rest of the population were doing. There are floods, heat waves, and famine every where. no wonder I was depressed.
I found people were worried about the price of gas, food prices and politics as well as losing a place to live.
I have never visited the food banks in our area that give free food but I saw that the food banks were worrying about the fact that there was not enough free food available for food banks.
I see that many people are thinking about putting in gardens and trying to grow food, I wish them luck but having grown a garden for years I can tell you that most new time gardeners will find that this is a hard thing to do.
If your manage to grow some vegetables you will find drought or pest can wipe you ought over night.
If you manage to grow something then your are faced with the problem of to many squash, or what ever and what to do with the surplus. I saw photos of people who live in high rises trying to grow vegetables in containers on their decks. I thought if nothing else happens the deck will collapse and kill anyone passing by besides how much food can you grow in a plastics tub and do yourself any good dollar wise.
I can say it is a know fact you can't grow Burger king hamburgers or Tyson nuggets in a bucket of dirt. If they manage to grow potatoes I am sorry to report they wont be french fries when they come out of the ground and many people might find to their surprise potato french fries don't grow on the top of a vine. Tomatoes do grow on top of the vine but what will happen when they are hit by the tobacco worm or blight?
I read these chick growing forms and see many people are trying to raise poultry for the first time asking what do you feed a chicken? now how are they going to turn the chicken into food? Butcher it, and they ask how do you do that? Not to worry the chicks will die long before you get to that point. Life is a struggle and most people don't know how to go about growing any thing except kittens and puppies.
I told you I was depressed!
They are about like my brother Clayton when he was 3 years old helping daddy in the garden. Dad had all the help he could stand planting onions so he told Clayton go tell mama to give you macaroni and we will grow some being Clayton favorite he did and mama refused. Clayton cried and I think these first time gardeners will be like baby brother.
Who in the SAM hill knew you had to have dirt to grow lettuce!and if that wasn't bad enough for me I saw all the net works were telling me McClain would beat Obama in November!

we planted 5 tomatoes this year in buckets - we finally found a sunny place on the deck.
The thoughts are here that McCain will take Missouri....Obama better get a brain and add Hillary or he will be sunk in MO....even 'ole Carl Rove knew that McCain could not beat Hillary when he mapped out state by state what she would carry....I really believe the Republicans got Obama the nomination!
