What a mess!

I had more baby chicks this morning. There were so many this time I didn't try to count them but I had a least another dozen. I gathered them up with a little black hen and tossed them in the brooder. I thought this hen would be a good mother but she went crazy raising all kinds of fuss. I may have put a hen in that hadn't been setting long enough.
I went back and got one of my Rhode Island red bantams and tossed her in. She claimed the babies right away and begin to cover them.
The hens and chicks will be fine in this pen because the babies can't get thro' the wire and I am sure I have a least a dozen more in that pen. That makes 30 new bantam chicks. There are more eggs to hatch and if they do so in a day or there about I will throw them in and add a another Rhode Island hen because they have been setting for ever.
As soon as my chick pen dries out that has the hatchery chicks enclosed I am going to move the sex linked pullets to a pen attached to the hen house and block the door to the house.
I have one pullet that has a crippled leg. I think I will destroy her because she has been that way for at least a week and I don't think she is getting any better. I will have a dozen sex linked pullets to lay when they start laying. That will be more than enough.
I am knee deep in chickens!

I have 6 of the sex linked chicks to lay in the fall. I think the one chick you gave me (Rhode IS.)
is a hen, too!

I have too many banties and need to part with some. If Sam was here I could get him to take them to the sale. I have thought about putting them on dial a trade, but then I really only want to part with the ones that are old and that would be a little dishonest.
