Thanksgiving past

Thanksgiving in the past meant going to daddy's and have a big meal which mama cooked and the kids played and I sat and visited with daddy.
The year we came back from California I cooked supper for mama and daddy and all the kids that were home . we had a nice dinner and then it started snowing, Richard loaded his family in the truck and started home just as the snow started to fall.
Mama and daddy stayed and visited and soon the roads were covered in a deep snow, Daddy walked home and mama and Debbie and Gilbert stayed all night.
We were snow bound for 3 days and it turned off really cold. It was the worst time I ever had being cooped up with mama for 3 days. Clayton walked over the hill and cared Gilbert home on his back. after 3 days they came to get mama and I was glad to see her go!
One time we had dinner at daddy's and mama had failed to get the dressing done and we all were sick for days with food poison.
Holidays were a big thing for daddy and we all had to be at his house. Mama worked and daddy had a good time visiting.
I have not enjoyed the holidays since mama and daddy have gone.

This is the 1st Thanksgiving I have not had at my house...Last year I was sick and my girls cooked..But it was still at my house... I always have the kids over also but I can cook and visit at the same time. They all hang around the kitchen bar and talk to me.

Billy asked me last weekend if I was going to make a pumpkin pie and freeze it for today..I said no but Missy bought him a Mrs. Smith's pie.

Here at Kris's I made 2 pumpkin and a lemmon pie...I had some crusts left over and cut it into strips and put sugar and cinnamon them...It was great crust... we have not eaten yet.

I remember that Thanksgiving..Patsy forgot about me the day after it snowed I rode ole cocoa home.... Clayton brought him when he walked over to get Gilbert....Clayton carried Gilbert over the hill sitting on his neck...I rode Cocoa around the road and poor Debby and mama stayed for 3 days..Mother was more of a clean freak than I am so I know Pat did not get 1 moments rest...I am sure all of the kids just stayed outside the whole time so they did not have to pick up for mom...

There was never any choice about where to go to the holidays...It was always Daddys house. I guess any of the inlaws just lost out because there was never a question....even after the Grandkids got grown they still were expected to go to daddys.....And if you were not there you were called and asked where you were at and when you would be there...

While we had Charlotte it was nice she always cleaned up the dishes...I remember the 1st one without her..Fleta wondered who was cleaning up the dishes...she mouthed about it the whole time she cleaned'wish charlotte was here, wish charlotte was here..'
