gift

Kelly came by and brought me my Christmas present now if I had a cow I could churn butter. I did some reading on line to see how the colonial people made a churn usable because if you were to put milk in this churn it soon would turn ranicd and stink. I saw that the inside of the churn had to be coated with bees wax so the milk didn't soak into the wood. If I had a cow I think I would use the gallon syrup jug like we did when I was a girl.
The weather has cooled and this morning is 29 degrees compare that to the 54 degrees we had yesterday.

I have a Daisy churn I will use if we ever get a calf out of my Jersey heifer. Although I think I prefer just putting the cream in a gallon jug and shaking it.

I have a crock jar churn also given to me by Larry and betty.....I remember shaking the cream in a jar to make butter. It was almost always soured because it churned so much easier. I liked the taste of it better....Kris had her kinder garden children make butter every Thanksgiving.....she would buy fresh cream and they would pass around the jar till it was butter...then they each got to eat some on bread and she brought me the rest and we had it on the table for Thanksgiving dinner....I always thought it was a treat...

from what I can find out I think if you had a cow you could drink the raw milk without it hurting your stomach..
