april 2 and soaps

I went to feed and the air was laden with rain drops. The guineas are calling loud and The soap opera "Guiding Light" is switching off after a 72-year run that predates television. I listened to the soaps on the radio when I was a girl. Does anyone Else remember "MA PERKINS"?
Grandma Powell listened to the shows on her TV the last 20 years of her life and she would talk to them. I have not listened to the soaps since I was young but my children watch them.
They called them soaps because they usually advertised some brand of soap. Ma Perkins advertised Oxydol .

That's a great shot of the guinea.

My grandma listened to "One Man's Family" every weekday afternoon. She never owned a TV.

This is the first time I've ever looked a guinea in the face! Now I see why they look like they have a red bow at their neck. Wonderful.

Soaps aren't a part of my family story but I hadn't thought of Oxydol in a hundred years, well, maybe not that long.

Is it okay if I use your guinea picture on my blog some time today?

Hi Patsy, I saw this picture over on Linda's blog and had to come over here and see it again. lol. I hope you are feeling much better. I don't remember Ma Perkins and I have never watched soaps. I did not know that was the reason they are called soaps. My girls watch them, too. That is a great shot of your guinea.

We're back from opening the camper - burr, it was cold!
Grandma had a picture of the entire "As the World Turns" family on her TV. She, my mom and aunt Winnie all loved the soaps. One time when aunt Winnie was on a trip in the summer, I had to keep a running dialog in a notebook for her - she didn't want to miss "As the World Turns". Fun, happy memories
