In case you don't know me and my children are all big another word to use is FAT, I patch my children's cloths. My daughter is always busting out of her jeans in the seat or a seam gives away. I patch their cloths with a zig zag stitch and they wear them. They don't seem to mind as long as their skin isn't showing.
My grandmother Powell did darning with a needle and thread. The stitches were small and even and would last for ever. I have seen her darn socks.
I am not so expert in my stitches. I hand sew a patch in and then take it to the sewing machine and zigzag all over. these patches will last longer than the garment.
Many of the cloths we buy will give way in a seam and this can be repaired with a few stitches on the inside of the seam.
Patches on your shirt sleeve.Patches on your tie.
Patches on your pockets And pockets full of rye.
So, many slips of paper. So, many scraps of cloth.
So, many parts of something,Like mothballs and a moth.
Does it matter truly,If the coat is new or old,
Or if it's brown, or black or white,Or crimson, tarnished gold?

I miss my late mother-in-law for many reasons, but one thing I miss is her patching our clothes when we needed it done. I can barely sew on a button. My MIL patched clothes with style!
My mom was willing to patch things, but she took short cuts and wasn't too worried about how things looked.
Now they're both gone. Nobody patches anything around here.
