asking winnie jo

Fleta said and she has said this before, I think and I want Winnie Jo to wade in on this, I think if grandma wrote this in a letter for a record for us to have, I think she was right . I knew grandma far better than Fleta did and I am sure she knew what she said.
Grandma Powell was not given to speak without thought and she certainly would not have wrote something down that she wasn't sure of I say.
Our Grandmother in a letter date 1967 states that brothers Ben (her grandfather), Andrew (Andy) and Taylor (Pat) Coxsey came to Carroll Co. AR in 1869 and that Ben was the oldest. I am almost sure that that is not correct. I found Ben Coxey on the 1850 census as a son of Absalom Coxsey. On the same census, Polk Co., Tennessee, John B. Coxsey is listed with sons James A., John T., and Joshua L. The James A. is James Anderson, Aunt Una's grandfather. Joshua L, is I think, actually Joshua Taylor and is the Pat Coxsey. What I think is that Ben Coxsey was a brother to Andy and Pat's father, John B. Coxsey. But I am not sure. I am pretty sure that Ben, Andy and Pat were not brothers. However, Ben was closer to the age of Andy and Pat than he was to their father John B. Coxsey.

Don't want to bust your bubble on Granny but she said her Maples ancestors came on the Mayflower and their names were William and Mary Maples. She gave it a lot of thought but sometimes it was not fact! teehee

Any how...I do believe that John was a brother to Absolum. Why? Because my sister Fleta said so.

The sun is shining here today. No wind. It is fairly nice. And little Clayton is here...which makes the sun brighter. Hope you and all those chicks are having a fine day too!

Hope Winnie Jo is doing well.

Also, I hope your are not 'itching' today.

Grandma also said that Melton Powell's grandmothers were named Elinda Powell and Sarah Cooper. Their names were Elinda Cooper and Sarah Powell.

She said her grandmother Coxsey was Martha Bartles and her name was actually Martha Barksdale.

At one time I thought Daddy's grandfather Maples was named Jesse Maples. I wrote this in my Bible. Jesse Maples was Grandma's Uncle. I am sure Daddy never told me that Jesse Maples was his grandfather. I had heard so many stories about Jesse Maples that I thought he was Daddy's grandfather.

So, I am sure I am right about everthing else.

And, also, I am right because Betty says so and Betty is always right. Oh, except that time that she said that I said that John was Absolom's brother. I said that John was Ben's brother. Other than these two times, me and Betty are always right.

Oops. It would help if I could repeat what you told me correctly, Sister Fleta. John and Ben were brothers and sons of Absolum. Oh, Absolum!

I did not know until recently that Grandpa Gaddy's name meant wise--that was why his father gave him the middle name of Solem, or however, he spelled it.
