Helen Thomas

I have listened for her questions at every press conference of a president since JFK days in the white house, she has been forced to retire after she made remarks about Israel that some found offensive. I didn't agree with her statement about the Jews in Israel but I will give her the right to say what she said and since her parents were Lebanese from Syria I can understand how she might have life experiences that colored her view of Israel.

In the world of political journalism, it's the end of an era: Helen Thomas has retired just months shy of her 90th birthday.
The longtime White House journalist has covered every president since Dwight Eisenhower and broke several barriers for female journalists but stepped down from her latest role -- a columnist for Hearst Newspapers -- in the wake of controversial remarks made in late May about the need for Jews to "get the hell out of Palestine" and return to Poland and Germany.

She had a long and successful career and it is time she made room for the younger reporters but I will miss her and her red dress on the front row of the next presidential press conference. Helen has a book out and the name is MY LIFE AND TIMES, she knows a good title when she sees it.
