murder of park squirrels

A series of squirrel maulings in Greenwich Village has pit friends of the furry rodents against what they say are a pair of bloodthirsty pooches.

The clash in Washington Square Park has gotten so heated undercover Parks Enforcement officers are stalking the area to prevent another dogs-versus-squirrels showdown, officials said yesterday.

"There are lots of people in the park who care about the squirrels," said Vicki Puluso, who witnessed the aftermath of multiple attacks. "Even the chess guys and the drug dealers are outraged."

City people are so clueless. Dogs have been killing squirrels since the dawn of time, it's their nature. I don't think there's any danger of squirrels becoming extinct.
On the other hand, what are dogs doing running loose in Greenwich Village? Surely there's a leash law there.

If there isn't, there should be. Eight years ago when we moved into this house, I had my good lamps unloaded into my garage. Two black labs, belonging to a neighbor were running loose. They knocked over the lamps before I could get them out of my garage and broke the globe on one of them. They also tore the silk shades. I have never been able to find a globe or silk shades to replace those. In a city or even a town, dogs need to be leashed or put in fenced in yards.

Patsy Fleet has a great picture of a squirrel on the cream can on Shutterfly....
