GREEN FOREST — Green Forest’s former City Clerk-Treasurer Janell Compton has been indicted by a federal grand jury for hiring five illegal aliens and harboring and concealing them by employing them “in a manner to aid in their concealment within the United States.”
She is scheduled for arraignment before federal Magistrate James R. Marschewski April 5 at the federal courthouse at Harrison.
Compton was the long-time city clerk until she became acting mayor and informal leader of three aldermen whose controversial actions led to the 111-264 defeat of Compton Nov. 2 and left only one of her allies on the council this year.
Compton, 54, faces up to 10 years in federal prison and $250,000 in fines for each of the five illegal aliens, according to a federal press release.
