Japanese or Jap

It is a fact our life experiences can effect our attitudes. I was 5 years old when my father went to war. he fought on Iwo Jima and he fought the Japanese on that island.
Hate for the Jap, that was what we called them, was in our being they were the enemy and we hated the very name.
When the war was over we didn't forget those felling. People my age and older will remember those days and how the jap was our enemy.
I am 72 years old and deep down I still have those feeling. When I see the great Calamity that has falling on these countries that have had the earthquake I feel sorry for the people but when I view the The island of Japan and their great tragedy deep down in my being creeps the thought that they deserve what happen to them and I find no great sympathy in my heart for these people.
I am ashamed for these thoughts but they creep back in my mind often. I am deeply ashamed of this but it is a fact.

I know exactly what you are talking about, although I don't really feel that way toward the Japanese. But there are certain groups that I should not be prejudiced toward, and yet deep down I am. I fight it, though, and I'm aware it's wrong.

They tried and tried to kill our father. They would come out of those caves on the Island at night and try to kill. I was not born and it is even hard for me to think of.
