I like to read,I read all kinds of books, sister no 1 and sweat sister always say, rather self rightist I think, that they don't read fiction, I do. I like nothing better than to lose my self in the pages of a good book. Why should I care if it is fiction.
I made a trip to our local library Monday and brought a load of books home, I like to pick books by authors I know but I have read all the Library has to offer by authors I know so I just go down the isles and pick at random.
One of the books I brought home was "THE PLUM THICKET BY JANICE HOLT GILES." this is a good read placed in southern Arkansas at the turn of the century about a 8 year old girl who spends the summer on her grandfather's farm.
This is a story about a time and place that has passed away but Giles takes you there and you lose your self in happy times and the hidden grief that all family have and try to cover with a thin layer of deceit.
If you can find this book in you library, read it , you will be glad you did.

I just love reading anything and everything - fiction and non fiction if there is something I particularly want to read up on.
I read lots in the winter, but less in the summer - usually last thing at night, in bed, before I rest my weary head.
I read that a long time ago. I used to like fiction but now...I can't usually get into the book. i keep thinking...someone made this up. A few fiction books I can still read, but not many so I don't even usually try. I have a book now about the mason dixon line, one about the Cherokees, one about southern women's writing after the civil war, one about Abigail Adams. None of them are really that good. But I am trying to read them.
i went to the library to look for this book. i had several errands to run so by the time i got to the library i didn't know the author or anything. i finally found the author by browsing but lordy if i didn't bring home two of her books and niether being the one you mentioned!
when i go again i am going to look for more of her books.
Janice Holt Giles wrote several non-fiction books also. I think I have read them all. She writes interesting books.
