Hunter collection, appalachian

I wonder around on the net looking for things that are of interest sometimes I find a gold mine. I found in the hunter collection of North Carolina note and photos by KEPHART.
This person lived in the Appalachian mountains and wrote a book between 1909 and 1933.
One photo showed a old mountain resident doing corn "GRITTING". I never heard this term and I wondered what this was. All most at the end of the collection I found the answer. I found several things of interest and no doubt I missed many things because
the collection is in thumbnails and most of the time I had to enlarge the photo to see what this item was about. If you would like to browse this collection click on the title.
