JIMMY

Jimmy Lee Swaggart, born in Ferriday, Louisiana, on March 15, 1935, describes himself as an old-fashioned, Holy Ghost-filled, shouting, weeping, soul-winning, gospel-preaching preacher. His earliest religious experiences, piano playing and singing, began at the Assembly of God Church in Ferriday. His religious background is similar to that of his cousins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Mickie Gilley.
Betty got me to thinking about Jimmy Swaggart, It will be 20 years next year since his fall from the Sunday morning top of the line religious program.
I did watch him and loved the singing, the preaching was dramatice but I did have some doubts when he would cry and beg for money with his fancy rings on his fingers and his top of the line cloths.
I caught him on cable a few days ago and he has got old and ugly. One thing our society will not tolerate is old and ugly. Son Donnie was trying to carry on for his father but he has his mother's weak chin and can not hold a candle to his father. But old Jimmy could still sing and make the ivory keys talk.

Daddy said the holy rollers would have a revival in the spring or fall and 9 months later little girls had babies...unwed. I know I should not say this...but it is what I always remember about what he said. I think it held true much of the time.
