The Rhode Island Red ladies are so tame and so very colorful. They don't lay well but they are a joy.
My pekin white birds are so cushioney looking and I love them also but my best layers are my black bantams, the breed I got from the farmer near here.
I have to cull roosters in the next few days. I am going to keep two Old English game rosters and one Rhode Island red.
I have a unpleasant task that I need to do , I only have 2 Old English pure breed hens and one has a sore foot . I will have to destroy her. They never recover.

chickens...more chickens...
Lovely chickens. I admire your for being able to cull your own birds. I don't think I could - but I have a farmer friend who would do if for me if it became necessary
I think if we cross these reds with our old banties we will get a fat little bantie chick that may lay better.
