Let's say you were a black American whose forebears were slaves. What would your life be like if they had stayed in Africa (where slavery is still very much alive, by the way)? I'm not defending slavery. I'm instead saying that the windings of history brought us all where we are today, and that terrible past acts probably mean that some of us are better off than we would have otherwise been. In fact, since there are probably few blacks who aren't partially white, millions of people wouldn't even exit.
I don't have many readers so I should be careful about pissing one off but here goes.....
The argument that if the slaves had remained in Africa their descents would have been less happy or lived less fulfilling lives is a false argument because you can't prove a negative.
To argue that most of the negro race is part Caucasian and there forth would never have never been born is beside the point, What about the thousand of captured slave that died in the hole of the slave ships would they have been better off if they had remained in Africa? They would have lived a few more days perhaps and not have become fish food. How about their non decedents that died with them?
I have heard the argument put forth by snowbush by others and even if he states this isn't a defence of slavery this seems to be the case in my opinion.
As for the wealth of this country being built on slavery, all extreme great wealth comes to the rich on the backs of others be they slaves or the labor of others be they slave or free.
I know I am not very smart and I just proved it by trying to take on someone with the writing skills of snowbush.

Oh, I don't know. Your argument seems valid enough.
There are far too many very rich and far too many very poor. Those who are rich get that way because they do not share their wealth with those who help them in their business...their employees.
Yay Patsy! I am always so impressed with your courage and you certainly aren't dumb. You saw the flaws in that statement and weren't afraid to say something about it. To try to justify horrendous acts of the past by saying some sort of good came from them is just plain defensive arrogance.
You'll never lose me as a reader! These days I just don't read blogs that get my hair up with attitudes like that. Life is too short to walk around being being angry or upset and your blog never does that to me. Mostly it makes me laugh or feel hopeful that a 71 year old Arkansas born and raised woman has so many things of value to say. Carmon
Patsy, check this out--it's about chickens.
