moulting hen getting new feathers. I don't think I ever saw hens molt as hard as the red headed ladies. they are a shaggy bunch. Rained again we must have got a least an inch.

Hey Patsy, arent those this years hens? If they were born this year, then they shouldnt molt this Fall. Their second year they molt. It looks to me from their bare backs that the rooster has been overdoing his job. The feathers are only growing back in now because the roosters tend to back off when it gets cold and its not laying, hatching and breeding season.
