to nurse or not to nurse

young mother who was asked to cover up while breastfeeding her 21-month-old daughter in a Los Angeles museum has started an online campaign to remove the stigma attached to nursing in public. Katie Jane Hamilton, of Redondo Beach, California, was feeding her 21 month baby in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) when a female employee told her that it was making another patron feel uncomfortable. The mother-of-two was outraged and explained that breastfeeding in California was legal, which is when the employee walked away. Why would anyone be breast feeding a 21 month old child in public or behind the door? I remember reading some where a child sucked his mother's breast long enough that he was ashamed and made her stand behind a door for him to nurse Our grand mother Powell went some where on a bus and came home out raged that this negro mother on the bus was breast feeding in public. she said the woman had no shame. In some societies I see photos of women with their breast uncovered so I suppose it is public opinion that matters or does it? Mother nursed all of us except Gilbert and in while we were home mother nursed the babies in our sight but she never nursed them out side the home, truth be told mother was out side the home very few times in those days.
