John Hilton Rode with Daniel Boone

John and Margaret (Farrill) Hilton. John came to Kentucky from Buchanan Co. Va and was both scout and hunter for the Transylvania Land Company. He married Margaret Ferrill Aug. 4, 1788 in Madison Co., Ky with their license being signed by William Irvine, Hero of the Battle of Little Mountain. Margaret survived the Baughman Massacre which occurred near Crab Orchard in the Fall of 1779 or the Spring of 1780. Her father, John, and Uncle Capt. Jacob Baughman were among those killed. It was reported Jacob might have escaped if he had not tried to save his father. Margaret reported she could hear Capt. Baughman holler “stick to them boys” for a long time, even after she was far away. In 1813, John pruchased land on Beech Fork in Washington Co., KY. He was on of the early settlers of Long Run and died in 1841. In addition to Henry, John and Margaret’s children were: Margaret “Peggy” (1789-1860); Obedience 1791-?) married John McDonald; John married Polly Young; William; Eleanor married Adam Young; Matilda married Henry Powell; Malinda married Jonathan Young; Ruth married Peter Townsend; Martha “Patsy” (1801-1850) married George Cocanougher and Christina married a Mr. Hilton. John Hilton is buried in Washington Co. Ky.
