Russian mushroom when my children were all young and growing, food was in short supply sometimes especially meat that was when I looked for food growing in the wild. The coral and morel mushrooms are very good to eat. Dip them in water or milk and roll in flour and fry until golden brown.
poison mushrooms are in the woods also so be ware. I always think if it really pretty, bright colored, red or purple or snow white leave it alone. The Russian mushroom is very pretty but will poison you.
There is nothing prettier than a death angel in the woods it is snow white and deadly. they poisoned Cesar with this one. Have you ever seen mushrooms growing in you yard in a ring ?they are white and very attractive, leave them be, they will kill thee!

I would be too afraid to gather them...but poke sallet time is near and I will gather it and cook it through 3 waters. Very good. Granny Renfroe taught me this. Momma only cooked the stems.
Great info. Patsy. I was always afraid I would be poisoned but a lot of people used to hunt mushrooms when my kids were little, too. I did cook poke. I remember one time when my husband brought home half a pickup truck of the stuff!
