Margie objected to my son's killing coons lest they ate them . No they don't eat them cause coons are known to feed on dead animals but they skin them and stretch the hides on a board and sell them . Tony has made as much as 1000 dollars on coon hides in a year, but what struck me as funny Margie didn't object to the killing of human being just animals, truth be told my sons needs the cash because they have had to make their way thro' this world by the sweat of their brow and the living has not been easy for them like it has for some. Tony makes his living by raising turkeys so those who like meat can have it on their table He lives on a wage and works 7 days a week for another fellow who owns the turkeys My other children work for a wage so that you can have chicken on your plate. They work for Tyson Foods and you can not know the nights they have lain awake unable to sleep from the pain in their limbs earning that dollar so you can eat chicken . The way I see it it like JFK said try walking a mile in the other fellow shoes before find fault with another. No well fare bums in my family just hard up wage earners.also no doper or jail birds Just hunters and fishermen trying to hold body and soul together.

I hope if they do kill coons, that they eat them. Otherwise, it's just a killing

I hope if they kill people they don't eat them.
Nope, I don't approve the killing of anything unless it's absolutely necessary. Humans either. And I don't consider war necessary. Not as long as negotiation can be done.
Coons are rodents aren't they ? Greg's grandpa always has coon at Christmas dinner. He's the only one that'll eat it.
Coons are pests. There are far too many of them around. if you go camping in a state park, the raccoons will make it miserable for you. They'll climb in your tent or camper, they know how to open your cooler. They kill chickens.
Anybody that kills those awful creatures is a saint, in my opinion.
Maybe it's cruel to kill rats and mice too? You can live with the nasty things in your house and barn if you want, Margie. Not me.
I have never killed a coon or had one to eat but I know people that eat them. They are very much a pest. They get in my sister's attic and tear up everything in there. She has repaired her chimney numerous times and they tear it apart so they can get in. Their hides used to bring good money around here. I don't know anymore what they are worth. If they ever get started they are very destructive creatures.
Margie would have a hard time living with all of us..She looks old enough to have grown up in the depression.
I remember Daddy telling about when they would have a bull calf and you would find it they would knock it in the head because they could not afford to feed it and a bull calf was worth nothing...
And you know even though all of those chickens at Tyson’s plants are all eaten when you see how they are slaughtered it does make knocking a new born calf in the head look almost like a blessing.
Boy and I remember raising then when THOUSANDS would pile up in a corner and all smother each other ...This was caused by the way they were raised by the 50,000 packed in each house so the American public could get enough to eat.
You know killing a dog by putting a bullet through it's head when you can not afford to take it 60 miles to a vet or pay a vet bill to be put down and have it suffer all of that time maybe because it is a hunting dog and got hung in a fence somewhere in the backwoods and chewed it's leg off to get free and finally wondered home seems pretty humane to meGoodness daddy and Mama could not pay to take us to a doctor or a denitst when were little...
and I am not so sure it is OK to kill an animal because I want to EAT that animal as opposed to I want to kill that animal to get money to buy wheat to eat...There are some animals that have just about disappeared from the face of the earth and I would hate to kill one of them but when I see all sorts of organizations taking up money to feed the Poor stray animals at the shelters and taking up donations so people can have their dogs or cats spayed free and then each day when I have to drive to doctors I see at least 50 people that are homeless and hungry needing food and a place to live it does not make me feel to sorry for the dogs and cats. As a matter of fact I would have no problem shooting them in the head and certainly no problem with the city gassing them.
And yes they are JUST animals and maybe it could be said that the people brought on their situation themselves butt most of these cat and dog lovers tend to think of their pets as almost human and part of the family and those almost human cats and dogs just breed and breed mainly because they are animals and have that same instants as humans to..Surely these dog and cat lovers do not only think of their dog or cat as almost human but love all of the stray dogs and cats..
You know we were all raised poor and killing animals to eat and killing animals to survive because they were creating a problem with you being able to provide for our family even by the coons eating corn we needed to harvest in a few weeks or a bunch of stray cats birthing in the barn and maybe bringing in sickness to an area where we kids played and the cows lived that gave us milk to drink made it so we sure did not want them getting sick, we got rid of these things and it often was with a bullet and when we could not afford a bullet we knocked them in the head. Boy I am sure an glad all of this is on your blog where you can take all of the ugly remarks this may bring instead of me.....Another thing we learned from being poor....every man for himself! LOL...Well except Family...
So I did put my name even though most can't get onto mu blog...
This turned into quite a discussion, didn't it? 4th sister said it right. I think maybe she should take up preaching. I say AMEN to her.
To each his own. But as I said, killing something just to kill it seems really inhuman. Now if you kill it to eat, that's another subject.
And, yes, I was born in 1935.
