Washington County, Kentucky It is the oldest operating court house west of the Appalachian Mountains.
My Greatgreatgrand father stood in this court house to apply for a marriage license, His name was Henry Powell and his bride to be, Matilda Hilton's father John signed the request giving his permission for her to marry.the date was Feb. 21, 1825.

I worked across the street from this courthouse for several years. It is a small world isn't it. The name Henry Powell sounds very familiar to me. I think there are a lot of Powells in this area.
