old graves

Fleta said...Patsy and I are having a dispute about cemeteries. Patsy remembers playing in a cemetery as a child that was either on the farm Daddy owned or very close by over on the Leather's place. In Patsy's memory, this cemetery is not in the same location as the cemetery that George and I are working on cleaning. In Patsy's memory, her cemetery had large trees and marked gravestones with names and dates, not just a cemetery with a few unmaked rocks. The problem with this memory is that it means there would have had to have at one time been two cemeteries in the area of our home place or very near to our home place just across the fence on the Leathers place. Even in Patsy's memory, there is not two cemeteries, only one cemetery that is located in a different place yet very near to the location of the current know cemetery. Two memories, but only one cemetery. patsy said.. I didn't say there wasn't two graves yards I just said I would not have seen the grave yard that Fleta is cleaning up because it was on Watson Leather's farm and I would never have gone on his property with one exception which was to procure apples or blackberries. We were always hungry and food was the only thing that could over ride our fear of Watson. I cannot prove there were 2 grave yards because Mama, daddy and Richard are dead and they were the only people who remember the world pre 1948. I can't go and dig to find the graves that would be the only way since daddy said Dan Norton threw the stone in the ditch. It would not be useful to ask Dan because if he tossed the stones into the ditch he wouldn't admit to it. I remember going and reading the markers and daddy said no one lived in our area with the surnames that were on the stone. Now we knew the name Leathers and Riddles so how did daddy decide that all the people had moved away. It is hard to prove a fact when you are old mainly because if all else fails a younger person will fall back on the statement that person is suffering from dementia. conclusion... There was a grave yard that I played in as a child that is not the one Fleta is cleaning perhaps there is no 2nd yard and Fleta has made the cemetery up just to try to make me look foolish.Perhaps she has been taking a nap and never saw what she is reporting as fact.

I went to the Leather's cemetery to get apples. I remember them being so good. I wonder if they planted that orchard and sold those apples. There were too many trees just for a family. It was a big orchard at one time.

I remember when we went there...there were lots of seed ticks. I guess from the cows.

Goodness there was seed ticks everywgere...BTW I have solved the mystery of the grave yard....I only remember 1 grave yard. I went there once and maybe only once. I did not think it was that close to Morris's....Fleta said that is because the land is clear now and you can see....and I thought DUH, then it hit me...George has taken that tractor and changed the lay of the land....Fleta said no because this was on Dan's land....does she not know Georges motto is, 'HAVE TRACTOR WILL TRAVEL!" just because it is on Dan's does not mean while she has been at work every day George had been over there knocking down trees and moving dirt....after all the lower side of the road is not the high side of the road in places...I have decided someday Clayton's house will be higher than the Rock Query if George lives long enough....
