Freddy Grim honored

FAYETTEVILLE — Green Forest native Fred Grim was named to the University of Arkansas Hall of Honor on Saturday.

Grim was honored posthumously.

After graduating from Green Forest High School, Grim lettered in basketball at the University of Arkansas from 1956-58.

He was selected as a first-team All-Southwest Conference in 1958 after averaging a team-high 14.1 points a game for the Hogs. The Razorbacks fell to an Oscar Robinson-led Cincinnati team in the NCAA tournament.

As a junior, Grim was the second leading scorer on the team at 11.6 points a contest. He also averaged 5.1 points a game as a sophomore.

After the completion of his collegiate career, Grim toyed with playing professional basketball with a team out of Syracuse, N.Y., as he was an early round draft pick.

Grim came back to Green Forest as a coach and led the Tigers to a state basketball title in 1967.
