fat tax

Denmark's "fat" tax.....I think this is funny!!

This evening I was listening to NPR's "All Things Considered." They were interviewing a Danish government official about their new "Fat" tax. In order to encourage Danes to eat healthier....and to raise more revenue for the government .......A higher tax was imposed on food that the governemt felt was high in fat, or otherwise unhealthy. They thought this was a great idea....healthier people and more revenue!!

They asked him how it is working out.

He said that they are not sure yet. He said that more and more Danes are crosing the borders into Germany and Sweden to buy their groceries. And the government is actually collecting LESS in revenue than they were before they imposed their "Fat" tax.
