Hillary Clinton's California juggernaut rolls on, as the Field Poll released today shows her far ahead of her Democratic presidential opponents, with strong support among women and Latino voters and a growing lead over non-candidate Al Gore, despite his recent Nobel Prize.

Among likely voters in California's Feb. 5 Democratic primary election, Sen. Clinton would take 45 percent of the vote, more than double the 20 percent support for closest rival Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and far ahead of former Sen. John Edwards' 11 percent, according to the poll.

The results, said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo, offer a study in contrast against the more fluid Republican race, where survey results this week showed front-runner Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, losing traction amid a shifting field of candidates.

"Giuliani's losing support in California," he said, "but the Democratic race doesn't seem to be changing at all - Clinton still dominates, and there doesn't appear to be any movement of support toward the other candidates."

And in an encouraging sign for the Democrats, the poll showed that Republican front-running counterparts Giuliani; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; Sen. John McCain of Arizona; and former Sen. Fred Thompson all would be soundly thumped in a match-up against the top Democratic candidates.
