squirrel

The main stay of an Ozark family's diet during hard times in the past has often been this small fellow. I have been greeted at the dinner table many times with squirrel and dumplings.

Hi Patsy, I have indulged in squirrel in the past but don't think I could eat one today. I watched someone skin one and without the skin it looked just like that E.T. in the movies or a rat. I have them in my yard and trees and they are fun to watch but I don't want to eat them anymore unless I am starving!

at least yours are plump red - ours are skinny, scrawny grey. between squirrels and frog legs, Daddy always thought he was in hog heaven

When I was a child my father used to kiull squirrels and mother would cook them. I had more trouble eating Quail, those tiny little drumsticks.

Seems like mother smothered the squirrel in a delicious gravy.

Squirrels in Oregon are gray and they're also nice and plump.

When I was young, I used to go squirrel hunting with my cousin and we ate the squirrels we shot. But I couldn't do it anymore.

The ones I have in my backyard look just like yours there but they are too cute to shoot and eat now.
