Was Thomas Jefferson a great American ? The things we read about his actions say yes. The only fault I can see to be found with Thomas Jefferson was that he had sex with a slave and was found out 200 years later.
How many of our founding fathers did the same thing and was not found out. I have read that Washington fathered a child by a slave. Does make him less in my eyes? No, it just makes him a human being.
William Jefferson Clinton tripped and fell because of a blue dress. I see no reason to find fault with him for this act. We can say he made a mess of his life because he was male and a human being.

Mules

my father thought there was nothing better than a good team of mules. My son has several saddle horses and in the last few years he has raised two mules. If he was working them I could understand this but he is riding the mules. I rode dad's mules a few times and this is not fun. When going down hill you are around their ears and when going up hill you are on their hips trying to hang on to keep from falling off.
The other day one of the mules threw my son off and the fall didn't bother him at all, it was hitting the ground which hurt. My son has a mule for sale . He is 18 hands tall .A hand (or handbreadth) is a unit of length measurement, usually based on the breadth of a male human hand and thus around 4 inches long (i.e., about 10 cm).
Today it is only used for the height of horses in the United States and the United Kingdom. In this context, one hand equals four inches (exactly 10.16 cm). The horse is measured from the ground to the top of the withers. So a horse that is 15 hands high (abbreviated 15 hh) is 60 inches (152.4 cm) from the ground to the top of the withers. Instead of decimal or vulgar fractions, three inch-long steps are being used between the hands, so a horse 62 inches (157.48 cm) tall would be 15.2 hh (said “fifteen two hands high”). A Pony is less than 14.2 hh.
Pigs

The last few years people are take in pets that are different that what I considered pets.
pop belly pigs have become the fad, these fellows get a good size when grown and allowed to eat until they are content.
I have seen reports of them toping out at 100 to 150 pounds and when this happens the people who have them as pets don't know what to do with the little fellow. I think you should send them to be butchered .

Life in Carroll Co. AR.

Carroll Co. Is Covered with turkey and chicken farmers. The farmers grow the chickens and they are processed at Green Forest and Berryville in the Tyson plants. Most everyone make their living by chickens. Those people who raise turkeys send their feathered product to Huntville for processing.
I see people wearing caps with this written on the front, IT HARD TO KEEP YOU HEAD IN THE CLOUDS WHEN YOU WORK WITH TURKEYS. This is true for chicken farmers also.
With all the talk the last few years of the chicken flu I have wondered if Carroll Co. Would survive if it struck here.
In my grandfathers day a family would settle on 80 acres and raise a few head of cattle, make a garden, grow tomatoes know as a cash crop, have a few hens for eggs.
Living their days in Pease and harmony with the land.
That has all changed now we have cars which have to have gas so we can get to work to pay on our debts that probably we will go to our grave still owing.
perhaps you would think that wealth and prosperity has arrived in our land but how long can we keep on keeping on?

On the Buffalo River in Arkansas

The first settlers in the Buffalo River country came primarily from the southern Appalachians and early records show they were establishing homes here as early as 1825. They were a rugged, self-sufficient group. They had to be. Those who find driving the winding mountain roads tortuous today might attempt to visualize what it was like to cross them with all you owned in the world loaded on a wagon pulled by a team of oxen and only vague trails to follow through the forest.
One of the most eye appealing sights you will ever see is along the Buffalo River. Read more by clicking on the name.
This burned out chimney bears silent witness to those who have gone before.
Andrew Carnegie

Andrew Carnegie (November 25, 1835 to August 11, 1919) was a Scottish-born American businessman, a major philanthropist, and the founder of the Carnegie Steel Company which later became U.S. Steel. He is known for having, later in his life, given away most of his riches to fund the establishment of many libraries, schools, and universities in Scotland, America and worldwide.
This is a picture of our library which I visited yesterday. I always think of Andrew Carnegie when I visit our library I Have read in the librariess most of my adult life and I thank Carnegie for his great gift to me.Read about his life here.

the Drive Inn
The Flowers

I meet the family at a local drive Inn that has been here for 45 years. The name is Jim's drive Inn. While waiting for the them to arrive I drove around back for some shade and discovered this wild flowers patch. The owner came out to see what I was doing back there, which was fine because I have know him for years. He told me that this land was swampy and it had just grew the flowers. I suppose the birds planted the seeds.

California transplants

This is a picture of my husband's sisters children. Lutrica is moving here now that she has retired. She is the third member of her mothers children to come to our area.
My husband and his family were from south west MO. I find it interesting that these people are retiring in my neck of the wood and not where their mothers people live.
I lived in California when I was in my twenties, for 5 years. I think these people have a good memory of Aunt Pat. Why else would they move to my area?
At the time there were 9 of them and I did enjoy being with them because they reminded me of my sibling.
Most of these children are my children age.

Relatives
My sister thinks we have this John Rogers as a ancestor. I don't know if this is true but I have been doing some reading on the net about John Rogers. He was burned at the stake in 1555 during Queen Mary's rein.
She was strong catholic and tried to stamp out the protestant religion in England. This man had the honor of being her first victim to be burned at the stake.
He had been a catholic priest that had renounced that church and converted to Martin Luther's religion.
whether we came from his line or not does not really matter but I found his life worth studying.
If you would like to know more about his martyrdom click on his name and read.

John Rogers
On Monday morning, the 4th of February, Mr. Rogers was awakened from a sound sleep by the keeper's wife, who warned him to make haste in preparing himself for his latter end. If it be so, said he, I need not tie my points. He was then taken before bishop Bonner, who degraded him. Here he requested the bishop that his wife might be allowed to speak with him before he suffered. This small favor being also denied him, he added, you thus evidence the extent of your charity! The 'hour arrived, Rogers was brought out of Newgate, and delivered up to the sheriffs of London. One of them said, Mr. Rogers, Will you revoke your abominable doctrine, and your evil opinion of the sacrament of the altar? What I have preached, said Mr. Rogers, I am ready to seal with my blood. Then thou art an heretic, said the sheriff. That will be known, said Rogers, at the last judgment. Well, said the sheriff, I will not pray for thee. But I will pray for thee, said Mr. Rogers; and so proceeded towards Smithfield, reciting the 51st Psalm; while the people, rejoicing at his steadfastness, gave thanks to God for the fortitude with which he inspired him. His wife, with ten children by her side, and one at her breast, met him by the way, being the only opportunity left of ever seeing one another in this life; and though it is difficult even to imagine any thing more tender and affecting than this parting scene, this last adieu to a beloved wife, and so numerous an offspring, all in tears; he stood the shock with the feelings of a father and husband, but with the unshaken confidence of a Christian hero. When he came to the stake, having been indulged to speak only a few words, he very briefly admonished the people to hold fast the doctrines he had taught them, and for which he was now about to deliver up his body to the flames, as an evidence of his belief of their truth and infinite importance. He was again offered a pardon on condition of recanting. This he again rejected with Christian magnanimity, and suffered with the most astonishing patience, washing his hands, as it were, in the flames, and ejaculating with his last breath, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit

July 25, 1915

This is the day on which my father was born. When he was a small baby my grandmother was out doing her outside chores and daddy crawled to the fire place and burned his hand. This burn left a scare that he carried all his life.
When he was in his coffin I looked at his hands folded in the traditional pose and I saw the scare on his hand. I thought this is really daddy lying here. On this day my mind is full of the memories of daddy and his life.

Working at the nursing home
One winter in the 1980's I found my self in need of a job. I applied at a nursing home in Branson MO. And was hired for the evening shift as cook. I ask for this job thinking it would not upset me as much as caring for the patients on the floor.
I was wrong they locked all the food in a freezer and laid out what I was to use for each meal. They never gave me enough food to feed 100 people which was the number of patients I had to cook for.
For instant they would have wieners on the menu and they would leave me 94 hot dogs. Now my problem was trying to feed everyone wieners. When I complained they told me to use the left overs from the noon meal. There never was left overs !
Also the patients learned very quickly that the cook was always willing to help them when they needed some chore down. They would knock on the kitchen door for me to zip up clothing which they were unable to manage. They would come tell me when someone had a bowel movement on the floor. I would have to find an aid and tell them to go clean up the mess.
One day this lady named velum refused to go on her out side work assignment, they sent some of the patients on a bus to work in a place where they made small items to sell. They were paid piece work prices for this work and could make some change at this plus they were able to get out of the home for a few hours.
velum always enjoyed this, she was a stroke victim who had difficulty speaking and swallowing and eating. Her food was placed in a blender and ground into soup which she took with her to work .
Like I said velma like to go but one morning she refused to go and I got to work at 12 0'clock the head nurse was waiting for me. Seem Velma had refused to tell anyone what was wrong and refused to eat. She said she wanted to see me.
Ok I went and talked to velma which was like 20 question and took a lot of patients. I finally found what was wrong. They blended velma's lunch and sent it in a vacuum bottle with her on the job. They had been starving velma and would give her only about half of the food she needed to get by on.
I told the head nurse the problem and she assured Velma it would not happen again.
in the spring when I knew I could find work I gave notice that I would be leaving in two weeks. That is the only job I ever gave notice on. I always just quit on the other jobs that I had worked but this time I gave notice because of the patients.
I had a patient who was the mother of the prosecuting attorney for Tanya co. She was senile and had little mind. One of The aid had called my attention to her ring which they said was worth 10 thousands dollars. An aid had to wash this patient hands before she ate because she often had bowel movement on her hands. The last week I was to work the management assigned me the chore of washing her hands after she arrived at the table. Which I did.
I absolutely hated working at that place and come my last day I just could not go to work. So I fell short of my two weeks but that was better than I had ever managed to do before when I quit a job.
The next week I read in the paper that someone had stolen that expensive ring on the last day I was to have worked!
the prosecuting attorney was investigation everybody who had worked that day at the home. I think they were setting me up for the fall but God looked after me. I just could not go that last day. I have never been back to that place either.

Tomatoes

The tomatoes are getting ripe. We are eating tomatoes ever day now. I have to tell you the heirloom tomato doesn't taste any different than the tomatoes I usual grow so either the advertisement was a fraud or my taste buds are changing, probably is my taste buds. One more thing to go.I knew a woman once who had no taste buds at all. She could only tell if food was hot or cold. I will say she never had a weight problem.

Chicken, away of life

During the years I worked for wages I had several job. I have worked in garment factories, which I absolutely hated, I worked as a cook around Branson MO. Not bad work but very uncertain employment. I worked for a long 6 months in a nursing home for the aged. This saddest job I ever had.
Most of my working years was spent in the processing plant for poultry. I have seen every aspect of that industry from killing the birds to producing the chicken quick cooked foods sold over most of the world. These foods are formed and precooked for the fast food industry.
I worked for Tyson Foods located in northwest Arkansas for many years. The work is very hard. You stand for hours on concrete floors doing hand work that cripples your hands and shoulders.
I have had my hands so damaged that I couldn't sleep because of the pain. In later years I worked in the futher processing part of Tyson Foods. The work was easier but the working conditions was bad in that the area had to be keep at a very cold temperature to stop bacteria growing on the meat. I have worked for 8 hours in a temperature controlled room at 50 degrees or lower wearing several shirts and pants and came out at the end of the day into 100 degree august days. The heat would slap you in the face and you couldn't breath.
I know people that have been crippled for life from accidents in the plant and some that have hand and shoulder injuries that they will carry to their graves.
I know some that lost their lives in that plant. I know 3 people that literary died on the job trying to make a living.
Tyson hires nurses that are at the nurses station to provide first aid. In fact their first job is to protect Tyson from law suits and keep records of injuries. I worked at this place until I was 67 years old. The last 4 years my job was to clean the break room and hand out supplies needed by the workers to perform the jobs I had done most of my life. This job was better but Tyson always is in a cost saving mode and you were in constant trouble with the workers.
The last 6 months I worked My supervisor J.D. Smith made me clean the men's toilet as well as my other duties. This was the worse thing I ever had to do because these men were the nastiest people I have ever seen. They threw their toilet paper on the floor after use, as well as using the floor for their body waste and finally I left that place and I have never looked back. I can say with out a doubt that I would rather go to my grave than to go back to Tyson foods.

Megiddo
The word Armageddon is thought to be derived from the Hebrew words Har Megido (הר מגידו), meaning "Mountain of Megiddo". The site referred to is a valley plain called Megiddo, the location of many decisive battles in ancient times, including the Battle of Megiddo. There is no literal "mountain of Megiddo" anywhere in the Promised Land, although there is an archaeological mound nearby, representing the ruins of at least 20 cities that flourished between 5,000 years ago and 650 BC.
war
Revelation 16:12-16: “And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”
